Fayetteville is set to have the city’s first organized community walk designed to be a time for fun and to promote a healthy lifestyle. The 2-Mile Community Walk will be held on May 16.

Councilman Scott Stacy is organizing the community event that includes a 2-mile walk and an assortment of activities at the Fayette County Justice Center.

“It’s just a time to get people out walking to promote a healthy lifestyle and to have fun,” Stacy said of the reason for the first-time event.

Scheduled for May 16 at 8 a.m., the walk will begin and end at the Fayette County Justice Center located at 1 Center Drive off Jimmie Mayfield Drive.

Stacy said the 2-mile event is meant for walking, running, dog-walking or with any equipment that is non-motorized, adding that the event is for all Fayette County residents.

Water, bananas and granola bars will be available along the 2-mile course and a number of vendors promoting a healthy lifestyle will be present at the event.

Back at the Justice Center after the walk, the Fayetteville Fire Department will offer free blood pressure screenings and walk participants can take advantage of a free introduction to a Tabata fitness class.
