Rock ‘n Roll super-hits light up The Legacy Theatre in Smokey Joe’s Cafe
January 20 @ 8:00 pm - February 19 @ 3:00 pm$30 - $45
“Jailhouse Rock”, “Yakety Yak”, “Stand by Me” and more rock Smokey Joe’s Cafe! This Broadway hit musical opens at The Legacy Theatre Friday, January 20, and runs through February 19.
Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, as much as anyone, virtually invented rock ‘n’ roll, and now their songs provide the basis for an electrifying entertainment that illuminates a golden age of American culture. Their Rock n’ Roll and Rhythm & Blues classics have been recorded by top artists including Elvis Presley, The Coasters, Ray Charles, Peggy Lee, Aretha Franklin, The Beatles, The Beach Boys and over a thousand more. Featuring nearly 40 of the greatest songs ever recorded, Smokey Joe’s Cafe isn’t just great music – it’s compelling musical theatre.
“You may not know who Leiber and Stoller are, but you definitely know their songs” says Bethany Smith, Legacy’s Executive Director. “Our audiences are going to love ‘Hound Dog’, ‘Love Potion #9’ and ‘Poison Ivy’ just to name a few. It’s going to be hard not to sing along. It’s incredibly upbeat and nostalgic- and the dancing is fabulous!”
Former Rockette and guest artist, Melissa Zaremba is directing and choreographing this production. “I can’t think of a better way to start 2017,” says Zaremba. “My hope is that we are able to transport you back to ‘the neighborhood,’ and that you leave with a song in your heart and a spring in your step.” The show stars a talented cast from around the country including returning Legacy performers Amanda Bridgette (Ring of Fire), Meg Dickens (Buddy Holly), Jordan Ellis (Christmas My Way), and Allie Richardson (Footloose) as well as newcomers- Nick Abbott, Brian L. Boyd, Rakeem Lawrence, Hillary Scales-Lewis and Christopher “CJ” Williams.
The Legacy’s exciting 11th season continues after Smokey Joe’s Cafe with Church Basement Ladies, one of the most popular shows in the country opening April 14. This hilarious original musical celebrates the church basement kitchen and the ladies who work there. Finishing out this season is Disney’s classic fairytale, Beauty & the Beast, running July-August of 2017.
Smokey Joe’s Cafe runs January 20 through February 19 with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm.
