Free literature class
June 20 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
The Fayette County Public Library is offering adults another free evening short course in literature this summer. The noncredit “The Play’s the Thing” course starts June 13 at 6:30 p.m. and end on Tuesday, July 18. Each class will be about an hour and a half long. Class will not be held on Tuesday, July 4, when the library will be closed for the Independence Day holiday. The course instructor is Stephen Bain, who has taught English at Fayette County High School and Gordon State College. This is Bain’s third literature course offered at the library.
“The Play’s the Thing” focuses on the texts of seven classic plays, beginning with the ancient Greeks and ending with contemporary Pulitzer Prize winners. The class is for anyone who wants to learn more about literature and talk about it with others, seeks practice honing their critical reading skills, and loves lifelong learning without grades, tests, or pressure. All readings will be available to check out from the library. The course is designed for adults, but self-motivated high school students are welcome to join if space permits.
“The Play’s the Thing” is free to all participants. Advance signup is required, with a class limit of 22 students. The class is filling up fast, so interested parties are encouraged to call or visit the library to register soon. Registered students can pick up the course reading list at the library, along with the first assigned readings.
