The Legacy Theatre in Tyrone is kicking off the holiday season with the heart-warming musical, “Appalachian Christmas Homecoming.”

Celebrated as “an homage to old-time music and to Christmases past” by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, “Appalachian Christmas Homecoming” tells the story of a family over three genera-tions through beautiful music and touching memories. Set in the North Georgia mountains, this production highlights the importance of family, love and the Christmas Spirit with a score chock full of American Roots music. This charming show is also written by an Atlanta playwright, Phillip DePoy.

“Appalachian Christmas Homecoming” stars five actor/musicians including several Legacy fa-vorites. Paul Glodfelter and Kelli Dodd were last seen as Reverend Shaw Moore and Vi Moore in last summer’s Footloose and Amy Bridges also returns to Legacy after appearing in “Sanders Family Christmas” and “The Music Man” among others. Rounding out the ensemble cast is John Dobbratz and Evan McLean.

“The music is wonderful,” said artistic director Mark Smith. “Our audiences will fall in love with it. We’ve also been extremely fortunate to assemble a group of such great musicians to bring the songs to life on stage. The Roots music has something for everyone, but especially Georgians.”

Executive producer Bethany Smith added, “It’s a sweet story with a feel-good message and a great opportunity to take a break from the business of the holidays to enjoy a night out. Plus, it’s family-friendly!”

In addition to “Appalachian Christmas Homecoming,” The Legacy is also producing the holiday favorite “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” as part of its Children’s Series. Based on the best-selling Young Adult book by Barbara Robinson, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids–probably the most inventively awful kids in his-tory. This hilarious play runs weekday mornings Dec. 1-11 for school field trip performances and offers the public a chance to attend Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. Tickets range from $8-$15 for the Chil-dren’s Series and Fayette County teachers who bring their classes will also receive two free tickets to “Appalachian Christmas Homecoming” as a special holiday treat.

“Appalachian Christmas Homecoming” opens Friday, Nov. 20, and runs until Dec. 20. Perfor-mances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. as well as Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now through the box office at 404-895-1473 and at www.thelegacytheatre.org. Tickets start at $30 and group rates are also available.
