Fayetteville Main Street officially marks the beginning of the Main Street Holiday Season with its annual Downtown Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting festivities.  The public is invited to gather downtown for this massive celebration that includes music, food, and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the gazebo from 6-8 p.m. The parade starts at 5 p.m. and will work its way up through the downtown square and around the Courthouse.

The fun actually begins earlier in the day, starting at 1 p.m. at the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife Museum.  Various activities including the reading of “The Night before Christmas,” live music from local groups, and guided tours of the museum until 4 p.m. Admission is free for children with a can of food and half off for adults donating a can of food as well.  From there visitors can walk across the street to secure their spot for the parade.

Immediately following the parade, the tree lighting program will commence with a variety of local performers and groups. During that time, free hot chocolate and popcorn will be available, courtesy of Nalley Automotive, Rolling Hills Baptist Church, and Gospel Community Church.

At this year’s event, Main Street is also partnering with 8-year-old Andrew Fleming on his “Fun & Helpful Community” Christmas Food Drive to stock the shelves at the Fayette Samaritans.  Please bring canned food and non-perishable items to Andrew’s tent during the event.  A list of needed items is located on the City’s website. Donation boxes are currently located at Town Square Jewelers, Firehouse Subs, Partner’s Pizza, Fayette County Administration, Old Historic Courthouse and Welcome Center, City Hall, and the Fayette County Library.

This year’s honored guest at the lighting of the tree will be 7-year-old Dylan Baizabal, a student enrolled in the Early Intervention Primary Program at The Joseph Sams School. Staff and children from the school will also perform during the tree lighting program.
