Fayette Senior Services, Inc. participated in the 2016 March for Meals national campaign this past month. Throughout the month of March, FSS invited government officials to participate and ride on some of Fayette County’s Meals On Wheels (MOW) routes to visit with recipients and give them a chance to see in person what a difference this program makes to those it serves. FSS hosted Peachtree City Mayor Vanessa Fleish, Woolsey Mayor Gary Laggis, Brooks Mayor Dan Langford, Fayette County Chairman Charles Oddo, and Peachtree City Council Members Mike King, Phil Prebor, and Terry Ernst.

Every March, hundreds of Meals on Wheels programs throughout the country gather their community together to build support and raise awareness for their local MOW program. FSS has taken this year’s March for Meals Campaign as an opportunity to be the voice for homebound seniors in Fayette County.

“It’s such a reward to share with others and show them the impact that one program can have on so many. So many people don’t truly understand Meals On Wheels, and by getting everyone involved it gives us a chance to be the voice for those that are homebound,” said Morgan Lanier, FSS Program Development Coordinator.

This campaign is a nationwide celebration of the MOW programs that keep our senior neighbors happier and healthier in their homes and helps bring awareness to the issue of senior hunger across America. In March, FSS challenged our community to march along with them and help build even more support to keeping seniors nourished and healthy.

Peachtree City Mayor Vanessa Fleish shared her excitement about participating.

“I am grateful that Fayette Senior Services provides this opportunity each year for [city and county officials] to go out with their volunteers to deliver meals to the seniors of this community. This decades old program is a testimony to the volunteer spirit that is so much a part of Fayette County,” said Fleisch.

Throughout the entire year, communities join together to ensure that millions of seniors struggling with hunger in America are taken care of. To be a part of such a meaningful program, start today by gathering a team from your business or a group of friends and family members to volunteer to deliver not only a meal but also a smile and warm hello to seniors in need on a regular basis.

Fayette Senior Services Meals On Wheels program delivers over 45,000 meals to homebound seniors in the Fayette County community every year. There is no charge for this service, however, donations are greatly appreciated to help offset the costs of operations and to help the effort go even further in serving more homebound seniors. This effort is a dynamic partnership between the national network of local programs and the businesses, organizations, governments, and volunteers who contribute generously to their communities.
