The application deadline for the Fayetteville Police Department’s seventh annual Citizens Police Academy is Tuesday, March 1. Applications can be downloaded from www.fayetteville-ga.gov or the city’s Facebook page and submitted in person to the department headquarters at 760 Jimmie Mayfield Blvd.

The program is comprised of 10 sessions, 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays beginning March 15 and ending May 24 with spring break off.

The Citizens Police Academy is an opportunity to enhance the partnership between the Fayetteville Police Department and the community.

The program combines both classroom training and hands-on experience in the following areas: firearms training, defensive tactics, patrol functions, criminal investigations, evidence and crime scene processing, domestic violence, K-9, courts, gang and drug awareness. All classes are taught by veteran police officers.

All graduates will have the opportunity to conduct “ride-alongs” with officers and participate in the Fayetteville Auxiliary Force. Candidates must pass a background check with no felony convictions. Anyone is encouraged to apply but Fayetteville citizens will be given preference.

Applications or additional information can be obtained by contacting Lt. Jeff Towler at 770-719-4216.
