When it comes to gardening, it’s all about that earth, ’bout that earth, and that means compost to give your vegetables and flowers an extra boost.

Wayne King Sr., co-owner of ERTH (Environmental Resource and Technology for Humanity) Products, LLC in Peachtree City, is a nationally recognized expert on compost, which is organic matter that has been decomposed for use as a fertilizer and soil amendment. He’ll be talking about the science of composting and the soil/water connection at the September meeting of the Coweta Master Gardener Extension Volunteers Backyard Association.

Free and open to the public, King’s “COMPOST! It’s All about the Soil” lecture begins at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, at UGA Extension – Coweta County, 255 Pine Road, Newnan.

Past president of the United States Composting Council, King was founding president of the Georgia Composting Association and chairman of the board of the Georgia Green Industry Association. He currently serves on the board of the University of Georgia Odum School of Ecology, the Georgia Recycling Coalition, Georgia Water Wise and the U.S. Composting Council where he chairs the Council’s Strategic Alliance & Strategic Planning Committee.

King has chaired and participated in numerous state technical advisory committees responsible for shaping state legislation, policies, model ordinances and best management practices such as the Governor’s Stormwater Advisory Committee. He also was a member of the advisory committee charged with developing Georgia’s first Comprehensive State Wide Water Management Plan.
