Gospel Community Church in Fayetteville will present “The Gift of Giving,” a Christmas stage play which has traveled from Germany all over the world.

The play will be presented Friday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 17, at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., at 383 Fayette Place, Fayetteville (off Ga. Highway 85 near former Mrs. Winner’s location).

Adult tickets may be purchased for a $25 donation or $12.50 with a wrapped toy for a needy child. Tickets for children under 12 may be purchased for a $5 donation, and children under two are admitted free.

Set in Chicago in the 1970s, the play revolves around a poor family which has its faith tested in many ways. Mama is mad that daddy gives all his money to the church  and the church pastor eats steak while they have to eat beans; one child wonders why her hair is straight and all the others’ are curly; the children resort to stealing to ease their poverty … all situations that can make one lose his or her faith.

But all questions are eventually answered and lessons are learned in the end.

“This play will have you laughing and crying tears of joy when the true gift of giving is revealed,” a spokesperson said.

To heighten the mood, those attending are requested to dress in ‘70s attire —  afros, bangled earrings, bell bottoms, hot pants and ‘70s colored clothing.
