PTC is great, but don’t cover up its shortcomings

Peachtree City, our wonderful little town. “Come here to stay.” I have lived here for about 30 years. I love it. It is a great city and a great county. Is it perfect? No way. But still a great place to raise kids, a great place to live and a great place to retire. Objectively. That’s what all the national reviews say.

Geologist seeks info and photos of Senoia gin

I am a geologist with that Georgia Voluntary Brownfield Program and I am working on a poster presentation for the 2013 Brownfields Conference that will be held in Atlanta this year.

The poster is about the former McKnight Gin property in how it went from an EPA Emergency removal action to what it is today.

I want to make sure I present the personal side of it from the people rallying to help Paul McKnight with all the legal battles to the studio purchasing the property to prevent big box store coming in and changing the towns landscape. Read More»

It’s a safe bet that most conservative Republicans would rush to support a political leader with the following record, especially in a traditionally Democratic state:

— Reversed a $2.2 billion deficit and brought it into balance without raising taxes, largely by reduced spending and eliminating wasteful and unaffordable programs, allowing for a projected fiscal 2014 budget surplus of $300 million.

— Bipartisan pension and benefits reforms, saving the state $120 billion over 30 years.

Doctor offers help for man in insurance limbo

I feel I have to respond to the heart-felt man attempting to get medical care. I can present three options:

1. Totally free care at the Fayette Care Clinic. Hours are limited and I don’t know the costs of labs though I believe they are discounted. There might be an income cap, but I don’t think so. Only restriction is that you must be an Fayette County resident.

2. I think the name is the Take care clinic, or Care bridge. It is a low-cost clinic run in conjunction with the Peachtree City First Baptist Church. I’m sure their office has the answer. Read More»

Does PTC staff really see Council as boss?

The following seems trivial, but the unspoken and unaddressed question of the relationship between the Peachtree City Council and the city staff may make it of interest.

At the Feb. 21, 2013, meeting of the Peachtree City Council, Councilman Eric Imker suggested that certain reports now presented monthly by the Police, Fire, and Public Works departments be presented less often.

Council member Vanessa Fleisch asked if the information was available monthly even though it might not be presented monthly to the council. Read More»

Fayette aids Adairsville

Thanks, Fayette County; you are the best.

We went to Adairsville, Saturday, Feb. 23, and what a welcoming experience it was. We pulled up in a caravan consisting of three trailers, two pickups, three vans, three cars, and Allen McCarty’s mobile home. All were as filled as we could fill them with all new items. Read More»

Just examine angry Democrat’s words to determine who really is racist

It appears that Deborah Lum is surprised that she was called out on her diatribe of Feb. 6, 2013, “Why do blacks block vote? Let’s count reasons” in The Citizen.

And when she was called to task for her mean-spirited, racist and hate-filled accusations and labels, she accuses you of “living in an alternate universe” per her article in last week’s Feb. 27 Citizen. Read More»

Ah, Ms. Lum, you ascribe life in an alternate universe for myself and Mr. Allen. You may be correct.

In the universe where I reside, words used by you to describe those with whom you disagree, words like; intolerance, chicanery, incompetence, asinine, bigotry, hypocrisy, stupidity, racist, ignorance, etc. are in fact not civil discourse and do reflect hate.

I am sure that you recall the President’s call for civility after the Phoenix shooting, but maybe in your universe that message was only meant for Republicans. Read More»

I just finished reading an article about Peachtree City’s own Gabby Seiler breaking Jeff Sheppard’s scoring record at McIntosh High. Because of the absurd tallness of most college and NBA players, i.e., approaching nine feet, I am not a basketball fan.
