Rabid raccoon killed in south Starr’s Mill area

A rabid raccoon found March 24 in southern Fayette County off Padgett Road has the county’s Animal Control department asking that residents be aware of the unusual behavior and to have their outside pets vaccinated for rabies.

Animal Control Director Frederick Sisson on Friday said a raccoon was reported on March 24 by a resident on Lone Oak Drive off Padgett Road. That’s directly south of the intersection of Ga. highways 85 and 74 in the Starr’s Mill area. Read More»

3 on short list for state court judge

Three finalists have been recommended to fill the vacant State Court judgeship in Fayette County.

Two of the nominees come from Fayette’s magistrate court: Chief Magistrate Robert A. Ruppenthal and fellow Magistrate Jason B. Thompson; the other candidate is private practice attorney Rhonda B. Kreuziger.

Gov. Nathan Deal has the responsibility to select which of these three will become the next state court judge for Fayette County. Whomever is elected will inherit very busy trial calendars on both the criminal and civil side along with hearings for county ordinance violations. Read More»

More than a dozen local veterans who served in the Vietnam War were recognized by the Fayette County Commission Thursday night. A proclamation was presented declaring it to be “Vietnam Veterans Day” in Fayette County. Coweta sees increase in gun carry permit applications

It was a relatively minor request to approve the $7,250 purchase of another fingerprint system. But in making the request last week to the Coweta County Commission, Sheriff Mike Yeager explained that the need for the additional system is in response to the dozens of people per day being fingerprinted, and most of those are being printed for gun carry permits.

“The probate office is being bombarded,” Yeager said of the surge of business at Coweta County Probate Court where Georgia Weapons Carry License applications are obtained. “It sometimes runs staff into overtime.” Read More»

State Representatives Matt Ramsey (R-Peachtree City), Virgil Fludd (D-Tyrone), Ronnie Mabra (D-Fayetteville), and David Stover (R-Newnan) led the Georgia House of Representatives in recognizing the McIntosh High School Lady Chiefs soccer team at the state Capitol with House Resolution 148 on March 14.

Wounded Warriors to ride March 29 at Serenbe

Between the two wars fought by the American military in recent years, including the ongoing war in Afghanistan, more than 50,000 servicemen and women have been injured.
