Flag retirement ceremony is this weekend

A flag retirement ceremony is Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Drake Field in Peachtree City. American Legion Post 50 will be conducting its annual flag retirement ceremony. This ceremony will retire unserviceable U.S. flags that have been contributed by the citizens of Peachtree City. The public is invited to attend and participate in this patriotic ceremony.

Silent auction is Saturday

A silent auction will be held at the Holiday Dorsey Fife Museum in Fayetteville on the square from 4 p.m.to 6 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the local art group chapter of the international artgroup Artistsmecca. The funds will go to both the individual artists whose artwork is up for auction at the museum and a small portion will go to help Artsitsmecca start a small recording studio. Read More»

At this year’s Whitewater High School senior awards ceremony, two graduating seniors were recognized by Fayette County Post 105 with the 2013 American Legion School Award. Barbara Daniel and Frank Johnson were selected by the faculty for their qualities of courage, honor, scholarship, service, leadership and patriotism. Pictured are Dave Niebes, Post 105 Commander, Barbara Daniel, Frank Johnson, and Joe Bowler, Post 105 member. Daniel is the president of the Creative Writing Club, played varsity golf and has earned the Girl Scout Silver Award. She plans to attend Georgia in the fall. Read More»

Coweta choral group headed to Scotland in 2014

On Saturday night, May 4, Masterworks Chorale presented its final concert of the season, “Music of the Big Band Era,” featuring guest band “Still Swinging” and the Centre Masterworks Youth Chorale.
At the concert, Newnan Mayor Keith Brady presented the youth chorale’s director, Millie Lanier Turek, with an official invitation for the group to represent Newnan in a cultural exchange with sister city Ayr, Scotland, in June of 2014.
