Program nourishes the pets of Fayette's homebound seniors

To many of Fayette’s homebound seniors, having a pet is a source of companionship and comfort. However, due to financial need or the inability to get out of their home, some seniors struggle to provide food for their pets. “Often, receiving proper nourishment can become a mutual affliction for the pet and pet owner - especially when leaving the house isn’t an option,”says Fayette Senior Services (FSS) Executive Director, Debbie Britt. ‘You’re a Winner!’ was the theme recently at the High Noon Toastmaster’s Club in Fayetteville.  Everyone was asked to share why they think they are a winner with answers ranging from serious to humorous.  Great time was had by everyone with  $20 “dollar bills” given to each participant.  Toastmasters International is the world’s largest educational organization specializing in communication and leadership training. Reception for youth art exhibit Sunday

The Fayette Art Center will hold a reception for their Youth Drawing Exhibit for March from 2-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 7 at ArtWorks on the Square, 107 Stonewall Avenue in Fayetteville.

Entries include work by young artists from Spalding High, Griffin, Westlake High, Atlanta, Mundy's Mill, Jonesboro, Coan Middle School, Atlanta, Armor of God School, Riverdale, Hampton Middle School, Hampton and Fayette County High School.  First place prize is $75, second place is $50 and third place is $25, plus gift certificates from Michael’s. There will be live music and food and admission is free.

Series tickets for The Fred on sale Saturday

Series tickets for the 2010 BMW of South Atlanta summer concert series go on sale Saturday, March 6 at the Fred Box Office at 9 a.m. – noon. Reserved series tickets may be purchased for $240 for all six concerts and lawn seating is $210. Fayette County is healthiest Georgia county

Fayette County has the healthiest residents in Georgia and Quitman County is the least healthy county in the state, according to a new report released today by the University of Wisconsin’s Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The County Health Rankings are the first to rank the overall health of the counties in all 50 states – more than 3,000 total – by using a standard formula to measure how healthy people are and how long they live. Read More»
