PTC Garden Tour May 4 features lush landscapes

The Fayette County Master Gardener Association, made up of master gardener Extension volunteers with the University of Georgia Extension Service, will conduct the annual plant sale and garden tour Saturday, May 4. Hundreds of plants for flower and vegetable gardening as well as landscaping will be available. The plant sale will offer flowers, shrubs, herbs, vegetables, and trees, many of which are native plants, for purchase. Read More»

American military history will come alive on April 27-28 when the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing will host the 10th Annual World War II Heritage Days at its facilities at Falcon Field in Peachtree City. ‘Xanadu’ brings the ’80s back to life

In 1980, Australian pop sensation Olivia Newton-John and Hollywood song and dance icon Gene Kelly starred in a movie musical that many hoped would re-introduce the genre to a new generation of movie-goer. Instead, “Xanadu,” skated its way to becoming one of the most critically panned movies of the 80s and sounded the death knell for the movie musical for two more decades. Although the movie was a failure, the soundtrack with tunes penned by Electric Light Orchestra and Newton-John’s writing partner, John Farrar, became a record-breaking platinum hit. Read More»

For the annual 10th annual Whitewater Spectacular, the WHS Choral Department is putting the finishing touches on the “American Tribal Love-Rock Musical Hair.”

“Hair” is a stage work in two acts that tells the story of the “tribe,” a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the “Age of Aquarius” living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War. Read More»

Show times are 7 p.m. on April 18, 19, and 20. A matinee at 2 p.m. will be presented on Sunday, April 21. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the SCHS front office for $7 or at the door for $10.

Two Piedmont Healthcare-affiliated hospitals have been awarded grants from It’s The Journey, Inc., producers of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.

Piedmont Fayette Hospital was awarded over $20,000 to support the hospital’s patient navigator, whose primary responsibility is to guide cancer patients through their continuum of care and provide comfort during difficult times. Two grants also were given to Piedmont Atlanta Hospital totaling $60,000. Read More»

Auditions are set for ‘The NeverEnding Story’

A Company of Friends Theatrical Productions will hold open auditions for the Fantastical Adventure Production of “The NeverEnding Story” on April 16. All ages from 8 years through mature adults will be cast in this high action and special effects filled show. Everyone will have a wonderful time portraying the fantasy characters that come to life right in from of the audience’s eyes. Fayette wetland preserve draws migrating birds

Join fellow nature lovers on a fun and informative morning Bird Walk on Saturday, April 13, at Sams Lake Sanctuary in Fayette County.

Brock Hutchins will lead the guided walk at the scenic wetland preserve owned by Southern Conservation Trust. Hutchins has led many field trips in Georgia and North Carolina. Hutchins is a long-time member of the Atlanta Audubon Society and is the coordinator of the Peachtree City Christmas Bird Count for Audubon. Read More»
