Get a great start on Christmas shopping at the 25th annual Christmas Marketplace at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church.

The events is set for Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

One of the church’s biggest events, the Marketplace features more than 80 unique vendors selling a large variety of items located throughout the entire church. Read More»

Fall family blast, movie on lawn set at McDonough Rd.

The McDonough Road Baptist Church will hold its annual Fall Family Blast Friday, Oct. 31, from 5:30-9 p.m. on the front lawn.

Children’s games, popcorn, hot dogs, candy, cake walk, face painting and other activities will begin at 5:30 p.m., while the movie on the lawn, “Mom’s Night Out,” will begin at 7:15 p.m.

“Bring your chairs, and enjoy some family time. The kids will get plenty of candy and have some fun activities, and then you can watch a great, funny movie together under the stars,” said David L. Chancey, pastor.

Weekly Lifetree Cafe explores life and faith

Christ’s Church at Whitewater is presently hosting Lifetree Cafe, a weekly “conversation cafe” to bring people from all walks of life into “a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.”

Lifetree Café is offered at noon and 7 p.m. every Thursday at Christ’s Church at Whitewater, 1577 Ga. Highway 85 South, Fayetteville.

Admission to the 60-minute sessions is free. Snacks and beverages are available.

Doors open 30 minutes prior to the prompt start of the conversation. Childcare is available from 6:30-8 p.m. The topic will be the same for both sessions. Read More»

Elder care workshop planned

The Division of Diocesan Ministry Development of the Charismatic Episcopal Church will host a free Elder Care Workshop, Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Cathedral of Christ the King Family Life Center to provide vital information regarding elder care. The workshop will last from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“All of us will probably need elder care information either for ourselves or a loved one at sometime in our lives,” said Dr. Judy Massey, contact person for the event. “A wonderful slate of professionals will be available at the workshop to discuss major aspects of caring for the elderly.” Read More»

The deadline is Nov. 10 for ordering pastries from St. Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Church’s 2014 Holiday Greek Pastry Sale .

Available for sale are: Spanakopita, $10 per dozen; Tiropita, $10 per dozen; Baklava, $18 per dozen; Kourambiethes, $15 per dozen; Melomakarona, $15 per dozen ; Koulourakia $8 per dozen; sampler mixed dozen, $20 per box.

Heritage Reformed Baptist Church will have its Annual Reformation Conference Friday Oct. 24 at 7 p.m., Saturday Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 26 at 9:15 and 10:30 a.m. The speaker will be Dr. James Renihan, director of the Institute of Reformed Baptist Studies at Westminster Seminary, Escondido, Calif. His topic will be The Reformation in England.  A nursery will be provided for infants  up to 4 years. The church is at 150 Lester Road, Fayetteville, next to Cleveland Elementary.

Vickie Lynn Davis, age 52 of Senoia

Mrs. Vickie Lynn Davis, age 52 of Senoia, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Piedmont Fayette Hospital.

Mrs. Davis was born in Lexington, Ky. on August 19, 1962.

She is preceded in death by father, Dewey Harris; mother, Jane Johns Harris; brothers, Teddy Harris and Fred Harris.

Mrs. Davis was a 1980 graduate of Jonesboro High School, employed with Panasonic for 20 years, and was a member of IAAP. She loved to line dance, play ping pong, loved the outdoors and cure for cancer walks. Read More»

Stephen C. Schmidt, 61, of Peachtree City

Stephen C. Schmidt

Former longtime resident of Peachtree City, Stephen C. Schmidt, 61, died suddenly Sept. 12 in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Schmidt worked for Bells Markets, General Foods, and Saputo Dairy Foods during a long successful career in food sales.

A great lover of music and sports, Mr. Schmidt was actively involved in his children's activities, including acting as coach for his son's baseball and his daughter's soccer teams. He played guitar and loved to sing harmony in his eclectic band, The Wobbly Cowboys. Read More»

Laureano "Larry" Gil, 77, of Fayetteville, Ga., went to be with our Lord in Heaven on October 19, 2014.
