It was a day of celebrating and encouraging Coweta’s businesswomen when the Newnan-Coweta Chamber hosted its Women, Wealth and Wisdom Conference April 1 at The Newnan Centre. The conference was part of the Chamber’s Business Women’s Network, which is sponsored by LifePlan Financial Advisors, Inc.

Keynote luncheon speaker was Corby Winters, a life coach and motivational speaker who also serves as chaplain for the Miss Oklahoma Pageant. She discussed the many roles women are expected to fill today and told the group, “Do the things that feed your spirit.”

Winters encouraged the women to set realistic goals for eating right and exercise, and she said that “the best facelift ever” is available to those who practice forgiveness. For women who find themselves too busy, she said that “knowing your limitations is critical,” and she suggested learning to graciously say no.

Afternoon session speaker Lori Auten of Focus Consulting Group spoke to the women about building their professional brand. She noted that according to research, business success depends 15 percent on technical knowledge and 85 percent on people skills, yet many don’t make an effort to work on their people skills. She provided handouts that got the audience to reflect on their professional presence and skills like dressing for success and making an impressive introduction.

The second afternoon session speaker, Client Connection Coach Susan Conley, asked everyone to consider the question, “Is your current pace sustainable?” She spoke of how she and her husband were both on the fast track with their careers when she experienced a medical mystery that took her out of the work force for several years. “I didn’t know who I was without my work,” she said.

That time away from her work included a period of reflection, and Conley said she now helps teach others about balancing Results, Relationships and Rest. “The right mix really matters,” she said.

During Connection Breaks throughout the day, those attending the conference got to enjoy visiting booths of the many exhibitors on hand to display their products and services. The afternoon featured a skit from “Menopause the Musical” with local celebrities, and there was also a wine reception and dance lesson.
