Gift from ‘visionary’ PTC leaders: RaceTrac

Congratulations to the “visionary” leadership of Peachtree City for obtaining a RaceTrac gas station for us. It complements the new ambiance of the west side of the city.

Three years ago, your visionary leadership turned its back on an Avenue type development for the Line Creek land area. The development included a “baby” Kohl’s, planter boxes, brick walkways, strict limits on deliveries, lighting, outdoor activities, and architectural looks.

Instead of compromising for a small big box and wonderful commercial development, you chose to wait for something better. Now we have it – a 24-hour gas station and some independent buildings.

Great vision! The Kohl’s, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods stores and others are now going to Fischer Crossings [in Coweta County]. So much for the increased tax revenue that a reliable store like Kohl’s generates for the city.

It seems that the concept of keeping Peachtree City like it used to be is not working, no matter how hard anyone tries. Living in the world of reality should have been learned long ago. The art of obtaining the best compromise works better than persisting to wait for something better. The something better usually never arrives.

The leaders of our city need to know that they are responsible for what has happened to the west side. Every resident of the city needs to remember how successful their leaders were in developing the remaining areas of the city.

Remember when it comes time to vote. The mayor and the council need to go if they do not have the ability to recognize what the best compromise is rather than always think they can get something better.

The residents of Cardiff Park, Planterra Ridge, and possibly Centennial need to express their sincere thanks to the city for its infinite wisdom in obtaining a gas station for the west side. It was just what we always dreamed and wished for.

Thanks for your collective “vision” but please do not be visionary again. We cannot stand any more of it.
