Chevrolet Fireball Run Adventurally Rolls Into Peachtree City 9/27 – Meet Competitors and Support the Race to Recover America’s Missing Children

The 2011 Chevrolet Fireball Run Adventurally and Race to Recover America’s Missing Children will be pulling in to Peachtree City on Tuesday, September 27. The Road Rally is an event filmed over eight days with participants stopping along the over 2,500 miles they travel to solve clues and complete missions, driving everything from Lamborghini’s to Camaro’s to the Time Car from Back to the Future. Think of it as Amazing Race meets motoring. While they are in Peachtree City the public will have the opportunity to meet the competitors and get up close to their unique vehicles at an event, Finish Line Frenzy, hosted by the Peachtree City Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

This year the Adventurally features notable drivers such as NASCAR legend Geoff Bodine, Space Shuttle Astronaut Winston Scott, as well as Actor Kevyn Major Howard. The public is invited to meet these competitors and more as the cross the Finish Line in Peachtree City on Tuesday, September 27 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. The “Finish Line Frenzy” event will take place at Shakerag Knoll off McIntosh Trail. Competitors will arrive in the parking lot and spectators will be able to cheer them on as they complete one final task before crossing the finish line. This is a free event. Refreshments will be available for purchase with funds benefiting local Boy Scout Troop #175. In addition, Speedway Children’s Charity will be on hand collecting toys associated with speed as part of the event.

On Wednesday, September 28, the public is invited to join with competitors at The Avenue at Peachtree City for the green flag ceremony as State Representative Matt Ramsey and other area leaders signal the rally’s departure to Knoxville, TN. The event which will begin at 8:00 a.m. as competitors line-up to depart when the green flag waves at 9:00 a.m. For more information on the Finish Line Frenzy and Green Flag Ceremony please contact the Peachtree City Visitors Center at (678) 216-0282.

The Fireball Run’s Race to Recover America’s Missing Children is the largest active recovery effort for missing and exploited children in the country. Each team is assigned a child from their home region along with thousands of posters to distribute along the route. A decal featuring the child is affixed to the vehicle, creating a rolling milk carton. To date, this effort has assisted in the recovery of 36 missing children.

The Fireball Run Adventurally is a national event and filmed production is headquartered at the NBC Universal Studios in Orlando Florida. The 2011 Chevrolet Fireball Run Adventurally starts September 23rd on Florida’s Space Coast and concludes October 1st in the Mississippi Gulf Coast. When logging in to GADD, make sure to select Flint River Regional Library instead of Fayette County. You’ll need your library card # and PIN/Password to log into your account. Road Repairs at The Avenue October 4 & 5
The Avenue Peachtree City will be performing asphalt repairs on City Circle on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 4-5. The road will be CLOSED at 6:00 a.m. on October 4 and will reopen approximately 3:00 p.m. on October 5. There will be no through traffic during this time. The entrance on Hwy 74 will be open for customers going to the stores from Coldwater Creek to Atlanta Bread Company (including Sleep Number, Moe’s Southwestern Grill, Lens Crafters, One Magnolia Lane, and Marble Slab). Customers are encouraged to use the Hwy 54 entrance if accessing the other section of the center. Customers will still be able to access the center from the Clover Reach side but will have to make a left turn in front or at the rear of Rack Room Shoes to get into shopping center. Signs will be posted at the entrances (by Coldwater Creek, Rite Aid, and Sleep Inn) to assist drivers in maneuvering around the center.

Bike & Hike at Line Creek on October 2
Southern Conservation Trust is hosting “Bike & Hike,” an afternoon of free family outdoor fun on Sunday, October 2, beginning at 2:00 p.m., at Line Creek Nature Area. Plans include bike rides, trail hiking, treasure hunt, prizes, and door prizes. Bicycle safety checks will be conducted by Bicycles Unlimited prior to the event, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Helmets are required. Line Creek Nature Area is located off Hwy 54 at MacDuff Parkway. Security Alarm Registration Continues – Deadline is October 1
Registration is underway for all active security alarms in Peachtree City homes and businesses. Permit applications are available at the Police Department or online at www.peachtree-city.org/alarm, which also features a full copy of the ordinance, tips for alarm use, and useful questions to ask your alarm company.

Project Updates:

Community Development Offices (City Hall lower level) – The renovation of the lower level of City Hall is in full swing. The project includes a reconfiguration of the existing Permits counter, which will necessitate the temporary relocation of the Permits Office. Please bear with us during this phase of the project – staff is working to avoid any disruption of service.

Library Lower Level Entrance CLOSED for Repairs – The lower level entrance to the PTC Library remains closed due to cracks in the masonry. The area has been barricaded for safety reasons until repairs are completed. Please use the main entrance to the Library upstairs until further notice. Council approved the bid for repairs at the September 15 City Council Meeting. A meeting with the contractor will be held within the next few weeks, and a construction schedule will be available after the meeting.

The Peachtree City Library will close at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 30, to allow for setup for the annual Promise Place 5K “Run from Domestic Violence.” The walk/run will be held at the City Hall/Library Plaza. The Library will be open for regular hours on Saturday, October 1.
