This week’s Council Meeting, weekend full of events, new scam alert, Kedron Pool construction, and more . . .

Council Meets This Thursday
The Mayor and City Council will meet on Thursday, September 15, 7:00 p.m., at City Hall. The agenda includes continued discussion of the street name change request for SANY Boulevard (from Cooper Circle), a Tourism Product Development Grant Application (CVB Trolley), and the Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Transportation for the Highway 54 West Landscape Enhancement Project. View the complete agenda at www.peachtree-city.org/councilagenda, and watch meetings live or on demand at www.peachtree-city.org/video.

Big Weekend of Events
Kick off Saturday with the Wellspring “Stop the Injustice” 5K, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the Bridge Community Center on Willow Road. Proceeds benefit girls and women victimized by childhood sexual abuse and sexual exploitation. Then visit Shakerag Arts and Crafts Festival, open Saturday and Sunday at Shakerag Knoll on McIntosh Trail. Great festival food and a slate of new vendors will make this year’s event really great. The Fred hosts Motley Inc. and the Atomic Punks in a tribute to Motley Crue and Van Halen on Saturday night. Also underway: Tyrone Founders Day, American Legion Yard Sale, and Greek Fest.

Kedron Pool Construction / Glenloch Pool Open
Construction begins this week on the Kedron Pool in anticipation of the bubble replacement. The pool is closed during construction. Glenloch Pool will be open through October 30, Mondays – Thursdays (7:45 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.), Fridays (7:45 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.), Saturdays (1:00 – 6:30 p.m.), and Sundays (1:00 – 5:00 p.m.).

Scam Alert – Relative Needs Money . . .
Several residents have recently reported being contacted in a more realistic version of the Grandparents Scam. In these cases, the callers knew the relative’s name and sounded like them. They say they are in trouble, ask for money, and beg the relative not to tell his or her parents. Then an attorney gets on the line and gives a short deadline (one to two hours) to send the money to avoid the relative going to jail. Relatives beware. Do not let your love and concern for family, or your fear of embarrassment or shame, prevent you from double-checking any request to send money right away. Look up the number for the reported jail/police department/hospital and confirm with other family members. Read more at http://on-msn.com/qdpPIU.

Lost Pets
If you have lost a pet, or have found a pet that appears to be lost, please contact the Fayette County Animal Shelter at 770-631-7210 as soon as possible. Pet owners should make sure that pets have identification tags. Local veterinarians can also scan dogs/cats for ID microchips to help locate the owner.

Fayette County Animal Control also offers pets for adoption. Their low fees are $30 for dogs, $20 for cats ($15 for puppies or kittens), and the department will provide references to nearby veterinarians and absorb 50% of the cost of the pet’s sterilization. Adoptees go home with a free toy and leash and a Homeless Homer Adoption pack. Optional microchipping is also offered for $15. Visit www.fayettecountyga.gov/animal_control for more information.
