Budget Workshop Monday
The budget workshop will be held Monday, July 11, 6:30 p.m., at City Hall, and the public is welcome. Council Member Imker will also hold an open meeting to discuss the budget on Saturday, July 9, 10:00 a.m. – noon, at City Hall. Family Circle names Peachtree City in 10 Best Towns for Families
Peachtree City has earned recognition by another publication. The August 2011 edition of Family Circle
magazine (on sale now) ranks Peachtree City #2 behind St. Charles, Illinois, in its 2011 “10 Best Towns for Families.” The publication based its ranking on several factors, including good schools, lots of green space, affordable homes, and volunteer spirit. Police Department Recognized
The Peachtree City Police Department received 3rd place honors in the National Law Enforcement Challenge held by the International Association of Chiefs of Police. The Challenge recognizes and rewards the best overall traffic safety programs in the United States. The Peachtree City Police Department also received the “Technology Award,” a separate award category under the Challenge that is given to only one agency per year based on their new or innovative approaches to improving traffic safety through technology. New Child Car Seat Law Now In Effect
A new law went into effect on July 1 of this year. Now children under age eight must be in an approved car seat or booster seat when riding in autos, vans, or pickup trucks. The car or booster seat must be in the rear seat and be appropriate to the child’s weight and height. Reminder – July 7 City Council Meeting CANCELLED
The next regular meeting of the Mayor and City Council will be on Thursday, July 21, 7:00 p.m., at City Hall, and Council will hold an FY 2012 Budget Workshop on Monday, July 11, 6:30 p.m., at City Hall. The public is welcome to attend these meetings.

Planning Commission Meets July 11
The Peachtree City Planning Commission meets on Monday, July 11, at 7:00 p.m. Due to the City Council Budget Workshop, the Commission will meet in the Floy Farr Room on the lower level of the Peachtree City Library (please enter from upstairs). The agenda includes consideration of the conceptual site plan for HearthSide at Peachtree City (Newgate Road) and a workshop discussion of the Southside Church parking lot expansion (Robinson Road). Kool & The Gang @ The Fred on July 16
Put on your dancing shoes, and “Jungle Boogie” over to the Frederick Brown Jr. ‘The Fred’ Amphitheater as Kool & The Gang takes the stage on Saturday, July 16. Enjoy an evening under the stars when gates open at 7:00 p.m.. Local party band Second Time Around kicks off the music for the night at 8:00 p.m., and Kool & The Gang take the stage at 9:00 p.m. Thanks to songs like “Celebration,” “Cherish,” and “Jungle Boogie,” they’ve earned two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, 25 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten Pop hits, and 31 gold and platinum albums. Project Updates:
City Hall/Library Stairway CLOSED this week – The outdoor stairway between City Hall and the Library will be CLOSED for resurfacing from Tuesday, July 5, through Saturday, July 9.
