City Council Meets Thursday
The Mayor & Council will hold their regular meeting this Thursday, April 7, 7:00 p.m., at City Hall. The agenda includes a Public Hearing on Outdoor Displays/Walking Signs, the bid for re-sealing City Hall, and a Memorandum of Agreement for the grant to add landscaping to the South Highway 74 sound walls. Severe Weather Reminder – Tornado Warning Sirens
Since Metro Atlanta may receive some severe weather tonight, please remember that Fayette County 911 Center sounds our local tornado sirens for two reasons: A tornado warning has been issued for our area; OR, a severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for our area when we are already under a tornado watch. Both instances mean a much higher risk of tornados, and people should seek immediate shelter and turn to local weather radar or a weather radio.
Don’t Let Spring Break Ruin Your Child’s Future
This week is Spring Break for Fayette County Schools, and Peachtree City typically sees additional vandalism due to middle school and high school students being home with extra time on their hands. Please talk to your children about the unintended consequences that can result from seemingly harmless pranks. Removal of traffic signs can cause serious accidents, and damage to sports fields, other people’s golf carts, and graffiti can be costly to the community. Acts that generate high repair costs can be prosecuted as felonies, leaving your child with a criminal record for what should have been a nice week off from school.
Help Give More Birthdays – Paint PTC Purple in April
In honor of the American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay for Life on April 29, April has been declared “Paint the Town Purple” month in Peachtree City. Residents can help decorate City Hall Plaza with purple bows for plaza light posts, trees, and fencing. Stop by City Hall to purchase a bow for $3 (or two bows for $5) to honor someone you love who has fought Cancer. Bows can be placed on your home mailbox or at City Hall Plaza (light poles, trees, and fencing), with all funds from the bows going to the Relay for Life.
Commuter Options Available in Peachtree City
A local commuter van group that goes to Midtown Atlanta daily is looking for additional riders. Project Updates:
North PTC Blasting Permit This Week, Begins Today – The City’s contractor for repairs at Fire Station 84 at the corner of Crabapple Lane and Highway 74 North will be blasting this week as part of the sewer line installation.
Peachtree Parkway North Repairs at The Peninsula – Weather last week delayed Fayette County Water’s work to resolve an issue under the roadway. They anticipate completing the majority of their portion of the work in the coming week (weather permitting). Following their work completion, they will turn the area over to PTC Public Works to install the final street patch.
Highway 74 North Water Line Easement Clearing – Last week, the Fayette County Water Department was clearing the water line easement along S.R. 74 north for maintenance purposes. Weather may extend this project into this week.
Lake McIntosh Burning – Fayette County has advised that the contractor will begin burning this week through April 30, conditions permitting. Any remaining burning will resume October 1 when the state outdoor burning ban is lifted. Fayette County indicates the type of burning they are doing, which is on the Coweta County portion of the property, should not create problems with smoke. Residents who do have complaints about smoke should contact the Fayette County Water System at 770-461-1146 or water@fayettecountyga.gov .
Rite Aid /Whitlock Ellis Entrance From Peachtree Parkway will have intermittent CLOSURES during construction of the Walgreens at Highway 54 and Peachtree Parkway. Access from Highway 54 will remain open. Path access via the Walgreens site remains closed.

All proceeds benefit the new Piedmont Fayette Hospital Cancer Wellness Program (and it’s a great warm-up for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life on April 29 & 30!). J.C. Booth Middle School Electronics Recycling – Monday – Friday, April 11 – 15, at Booth, and April 16 at Fayette County Earth Day. Citizens can drop off old and unused handheld electronics (ink and toner cartridges, cell phones, PDAs, calculators, iPods, digital cameras, laptops, GPS devices, game consoles, and DVDs in their original cases) at the school’s front office during the week. Collected items are sent to Cartridges for Kids®, a reputable electronics recycler that rewards the school’s PTO with cash. On Saturday, April 16, they will also accept large electronics (computers, monitors, printers, etc.) at the Fayette County Earth Day event.
