Blood donations sought, holidays lead to drop in participation

With Thanksgiving over, it’s only natural for people’s minds to turn to the buying of gifts for the holidays.

For many it’s a time to give, and one of the best ways to give of oneself is to donate blood. Holiday donations are crucial to the American Red Cross. Blood donations typically decline between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day due to the holiday season and travel, Red Cross officials said.

Donated blood is used to help accident victims along with patients who have cancer, sickle cell disease, blood disorders and other illnesses. There is no substitute for blood, so volunteer donors are the only source, officials said.

About 1,200 donors are needed each weekday to meet the demand of more than 120 hospitals served by the Red Cross Southern Blood Services Region, officials said.

There are several local blood drives planned for the coming weeks:

• Friday, Dec. 3 at The Gathering Place at 205 McIntosh Trail in Peachtree City from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.;

• Monday, Dec. 13 at the Fayette County Public Library at 1821 Heritage Parkway in downtown Fayetteville from 3-7 p.m.; and

• Monday, Dec. 13 at Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church at 1183 Ga. Highway 92 south from 3-7 p.m.

One individual can safely donate blood every 56 days. Platelets can be given safely every two weeks, up to 24 times a year. Most healthy people age 17 and older, 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood and platelets. Donors who are 18 and younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements.

To schedule an appointment for any of these blood drives, log on to redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767).
The twentith century has been characterized by three developments of great political importance: the growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy" - Alex Carey
From the book 'Deadly Spin' - get this book if you truely care about... Health Care Reform. If you don't care..get it and find out why you should!!

It figures - DM quoting a liberal professor that died 22 years ago. Noam Chomskey admired him enough to write a dedication to him in one of his propoganda books. Carey couldn't cut it in the real world, so he did what most other liberal bed wetters do - he taught.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alex Carey (1922-1988) was an Australian writer and social psychologist who pioneered the study of corporate propaganda.[1] Much of Carey's work in this area remained unpublished and was cut short by his death. In 1995, a collection of his essays (several of them previously unpublished) was published under the title Taking the Risk Out of Democracy: Propaganda in the US and Australia (University of New South Wales Press; reissued in 1997 by University of Illinois Press under the title Taking the Risk Out of Democracy: Corporate Propaganda versus Freedom and Liberty). In 1988, Noam Chomsky and Edward Herman published their Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media in dedication to the memory of Carey, claiming that Carey would have written the definitive history of propaganda in the United States had he lived to complete his work.

From 1958 until his death, Carey was a lecturer in psychology at the University of New South Wales. The main subjects of his lectures and research were industrial psychology, industrial relations, and the psychology of nationalism and propaganda. He was one of the founding members of the Australian Humanist Society in 1960

He's still quoted also. (Abraham that is) LOL!! You take the time to Wiki this - but can't come up with your definition of greed? Don't be afraid to familiarize yourself with ideas that may be contrary to yours. . . it's educational. Obviously many have read his books - and used his findings in the study of 'propaganda'. That is why your efforts are so very transparent. Your teacher is a bed wetter? You'd better thank that teacher - for the skill that you're using now.

I think I'll report you for stalking me. LOL!!

Who have read his books and used his findings in the study of Propoganda?
Please tell us specifically what they did with those findings.

I asked you for a definition of greed and socialism, and you came up short - as usual.

You like to lecture, but you fail to listen.
