Outdoor burning ban is lifted. That’s great. Just when the weather cools down and we can turn off the air conditioning and open the windows. Guess we will have to hold our breath until the ban goes back into effect. Why can’t you just be a good neighbor and bag it and take it to the recycling center?

Nothing lowers the quality of life in a town more than that angry, thumping, heartbeat noise that is popular with a few idiots and their “pimped” cars. I’m trying to have a nice evening on my back porch and suddenly it feels like there’s an earthquake or explosion somewhere. It’s a LOUD bass noise. I can’t believe this is acceptable in Peachtree City. Then I realize the source of the noise and I can’t help but feel like I live in some sort of ghetto. Low quality living. I don’t know where these individuals come from, but I think it’s time we silence the blaster tubes in their cars. Extremely loud noises are universally unacceptable. I should not have to tolerate sonic assault. It is a violation and these youngsters should be taught what is and isn’t appropriate and considerate in a civilized society. I am asking, as a citizen of Peachtree City, that the police please step up enforcement of the noise ordinances. Toughen the penalties if necessary. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. If you live near Ga. Highway 74, Peachtree Parkway, Robinson, Crosstown, or Hwy. 54, you definitely know what I’m talking about. Let’s find a solution to this growing problem. This is the #1 quality of life issue in Peachtree City, as far as I’m concerned. Thanks for reading my rant.

I was sorry to hear the PTC Council is still considering a ban on gas carts. I use the paths for walking and for my electric cart and have for seven years, and during that time I have very seldom encountered a gas cart. I don’t believe there are that many here. The carts are not that loud and the smell of fumes lasts only a few seconds as they pass. They certainly do not pollute the the air as much as the numerous semi-trucks that travel Hwy. 54 through town day and night. I also don’t recall any of the council members saying they would ban gas carts before the last election. To do it now would be unfair and an abuse of power. What next, will they mandate hybrid autos for all citizens in the city? We are all hunkered down now waiting to see what the federal government will do to us next. We shouldn’t have to worry about our City Council in the same way.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

Thought I’d seen it all until I saw a bicyclist on Hwy. 54 in the middle of town, texting while driving a bicycle through town. I was behind him for a while and thought he was either drunk or impaired, but when I pulled up beside him, he was texting. This is just the greatest country in the world: you can ride down a major highway and text on your phone at the same time.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

I’d be delighted to share the road with cyclists. Is your bicycle licensed and are you paying insurance to drive it on the road? If not, hop on the cart path and quit blocking traffic on Hwy. 74 and 54 and endangering the public on Peachtree Parkway north and south.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

Aren’t bicyclists adorable in their brightly colored “Sesame Street” Speedo outfits? They look so manly and feminine.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

I have no problem with sharing the road with bicyclists. Although if I am going to share the road with them, I think it should be mandatory that they have their bicycles inspected yearly, pay taxes on them and have them properly licensed to use the roadways.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

Bicyclists on Peachtree Parkway north and south and on Hwy. 54 and Hwy. 74. Why not let golf carts travel on these roads also? They are more visible and provide more protection than on a bicycle and can travel just as fast or faster than a bicycle.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

Seen on the golf cart path: a blue stretch golf cart with five or six little children under 5 years old, and the Mommy (or babysitter) driving with one hand and talking on the cellphone with the other. May I ask why is it so important that you talk on the phone and jeopardize the lives of those small children? You are really a sad person.

Someone keeps building sidewalks. These sidewalks start nowhere and end nowhere. There seems to be no logic to their location or purpose. It is the Fayetteville city planners or the county. Spend our money wisely, and this is not it. Let’s look at Whitney Street. The potholes are not deep but they can rattle your teeth and might burst a tire. City Council does not seem too concerned right now, but next year is an election year for some. Let’s see if anything happens then.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

After a 4.5 percent pay cut this past year for ALL Fayette County Board of Education employees, and a one-time “bonus” check of 1 percent of that back this year, many in the schools have found they are not being treated equally. The teachers were given a step-raise that gives them a raise for the years that they have served in the field. That is great and they deserve it, but what about the staff that work so hard to support the schools and the teachers? Although the board gave the teachers step raises, they did not give that step raise to staff positions or parapro teachers. Considering that HR only gives one year of credit for two years of work in any field and the 4.5 percent pay cut that everyone took, why are they left out? Some employes have 14 years of more experience in their field and are only given credit for six. To add insult to injury, they may have worked in the school system for four or more years, which would normally give them two steps, and have NEVER gotten a raise. Is this fair? Some of the full-time parapro teachers make so little that they have to go and get free meals at school just to feed their kids. For being the “best” school system in Georgia, are we really making it worthwhile for the good people to work for the FCBOE? How good do we want to be if Clayton County pays better?

I have been living in a rental house for a little over two months that is found to have a mold problem. My health has suffered, and I was blessed to quickly find another place to live to get my children and me out of this unhealthy environment. I am a teacher in Fayette County and a single mother who is temporarily handicapped due to complications with a knee replacement surgery and a subsequent surgery six weeks later. Teachers get paid once a month, and my ability to move is limited. One of my coworkers caught me in an emotional state a couple days ago. I shared my plight with her. As a result, she has organized people (some of whom I do not know) to show up at my house on Saturday morning at 9 to help me move. I just wanted to let someone know that there are some seriously wonderful people in in Fayette County.

I just returned from the members-only presale at the Friends of the Library book sale. When I got there at the opening time, an obvious book dealer was already indiscriminately grabbing handfuls of books and filling large boxes with them. He filled box after box as he grabbed books from under people’s noses. I was very offended that he was taking so many books away while I was looking at them. While I understand that the library benefits from huge sales, I think a dealer should only be allowed to shop after the rest of us have had a chance. A book dealer should not be allowed to shop before members and the general public. Even if the dealer has bought a membership in order to snag a lot of books, he should still not be allowed to make his huge purchase until the afternoon of the regular book sale day. We members are book-lovers who eagerly anticipate the book sales to find books by favorite authors. This man was only interested in taking what books he could grab and then selling them in order to make money for himself. He really took my joy out of the anticipated book sale.

Why do road workers in Fayetteville decide to paint lines and arrows during school rush hour traffic on the main road through Fayetteville. Why not do this at night during non-busy hours. What is the road department and/or DOT thinking? Oh, maybe they aren’t.

Although it was recently reported that Peachtree City and Tyrone have some of the lowest violent crime rates in the Atlanta area, we need to take off our rose-colored glasses and look at how crime has continually increased here over the years. We should all ask our sheriff to start the ball rolling to make these thugs not want to go to jail for free room and board and basketball. If our inmates were treated like those in Maricopa County, Ariz., and had to wear pink jumpsuits, work on chain gangs, give up smoking, coffee and unrestricted TV, that might just be a deterrent. Ask the sheriff to make the inmates clean up these blighted and foreclosed homes to help better our community. If he did this, he would be as popular as Sheriff Joe Arpaio who has been reelected an unprecedented five times. Take note, Sheriff Hannah.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

Why do we need a gate at Kenwood Park? There are plenty of Clayton County kids in our schools; why not the parks too?

I am an American. I am also a Muslim and the mother of a young man who was killed in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center nine years ago. This loss has been made even more painful by the attitudes of a growing number of Americans toward people of my faith. Please, please, try to understand that the great majority of Muslims are very much like you. We too want to see our children and grandchildren grow up in a safe and peaceful world. Do not judge an entire population by actions of the fanatic few. Anti-Islamic rantings, such as several published recently in this newspaper, are adding to the prejudice and misunderstanding that hurts us all. I thank those voices that have spoken out in defense of reason and tolerance. I wish I felt courageous enough to sign my name.

The Tyrone mayor has been trying to get the council to hire a part-time code enforcement officer. After reading the minutes of the last council meeting, I can only surmise the reason a part-time code enforcement officer is not hired is because Mayor pro tem Furr stated, “In these economic times, we ought not to be too hard on the towns’ businesses.” As a taxpayer of Tyrone, I expect the council members including Mayor pro tem Furr to enforce the town ordinances in good and bad economic times. To do otherwise is a violation of her oath of office and she and any other council member that refuses to enforce the town ordinances should be removed from office.

How hard would it be for the owners or operators of Marnelle in Fayetteville to enforce safety laws? If you’re going to post speed limit signs in the community, then find a way to put some actions behind the signs. Also, how many arrests have to made for driving without an operator’s license before you can remove them completely? One kid has been hit in the community. Will it take a kid being killed before someone enforces the law?

that some Scots Irish would think it reasonable to let a 7-8 year old drive cars and trucks around! I know a few that did when I was young! How about hunting Rhinos to extinction for Viagra alternatives? Kill all the Bald Eagles, the symbol of our great nation, to make expensive feature pillows? Lots of glue sniffers and child drug addicts down in the slums of Brazil! Should not the government try to fix that? They fixed the illiteracy problem in the US with compulsory education laws! That not a good thing? You must have a good deal of Scots Irish in you! You have a lot of shoulds but not many really is's in you!

As to fixing illiteracy in the US, I think you may want to revisit that claim.

everyone else's money to protect your assets! Why is socialized asset protection better than socialized healthcare? Police protection is a service just like healthcare. Your argument that asset protection falls under the realm of 'natural rights' is illogical! In both cases, you are taxing people to provide a service that people may or may not want! You have assets and more than enough money to purchase health insurance, so you call the service that you want a natural right while calling it socialism, theft, robbery, etc. when others would like to have some state-provided service that they see as more beneficial than asset protection! More of your socialism for me but not for thee tripe!

For a guy that seems so well read, you seem to ignore most of what you know.

It is the role of government to protect property, thus it is the role of government to have police, courts, jails, etc. with this aim. It is also the role of government to protect the country from invasion and external threats, that's why we have an army, navy, air force, and Marines. Property is an extension of our life and our freedom, but you know this already don't you Ninja?

It is not the role of government to provide health care or any number of other "services" that government provides.

the role of government to those things you mention? Why single them out for special consideration? All of those things are just public services, no more no less. It's just that you and your crowd have deemed them as handed down from god because they are to your benefit. If you are talking about life and liberty, then it seems that healthcare would trump asset protection because healthcare is more essential to life than protecting your new Chevy Malibu, and without life, liberty has no meaning! How can a golf cart legally be on Rockaway Rd.

moelarrycurly, golf carts on Rockaway

They can't, not yet anyway.

Come Jan. 01, 2012 that could change as golf carts will be added to a new classification of vehicles in GA.

I think it's SB 240 that will allow golf carts, with certain accessories, to be able to to use certain city streets but NOT state highways.

The actual law is a little vague on the details. I wrote one of the originators of the legislation, several weeks ago, inquiring if PTC could still tax golf cart owners if state law allows their use. No answer as of yet.

Thanks, bad_ptc

About Jan. 1st, I understand PTC (for now) is exempt from what ever falls under that law, since we have our own existing laws on the books regarding carts.

There always seem to be some carts in the downtown Senoia area when I go thru during the day, but I have never seen any that far out nor any with PTC stickers on them. The only thing I can think of is maybe the one I saw tonight had been sold to a resident there by someone who owned it and lived(s) in PTC and they left the sticker on it.

Let me tell you, the last thing I was looking for on that stretch of road was a cart going about 10-20 mph. Seems as if someone is going to get hurt.

I want to thank GDOT for royally screwing up traffic

on Hwy 54 East from the Parkway to past the Publix Center. I'm not sure you could have done a better job of this if you had tried.

From Traffic Light timing to barrels/trucks in the road, it is horrible. The light coming of Publix by Kaufman must stay green for 5 minutes...

Who is the MORON in charge of this?

The lights worked perfectly, and have for YEARS. So what do you do, you plow up the road and put in 5 foot long sidewalks along with new light poles, etc. They aren't working worth a CHIT.

Round, if you think about it,

President Bush was a weapon of mass destruction in his own right. The legacy left by his administration on our economy just seams to linger on and on doesn’t it?

First it destroyed Bush’s presidency, then the US and world economy, and now the GOP refuses to allow any changes to those policies so it will stall this economy we have now.

The GOP got a majority in the house running on jobs and telling voters Obama cut Medicare. Now the GOP wants to do away with Medicare and nothing about jobs was ever debated or passed by the GOP house.

President Obama is tired of waiting for them to do their job so he will come up with a jobs plan for them. The GOP will be against everything he asks for, and life in the capital will go on as usual.

May have posted before but I spent about a week on base in Sept '60 waiting to be separated after leaving my ship which was out for sea trials after dry docking. That led to my last visit to the Pike to stand shore patrol. Also had SP duty in a Naval housing project that was having a problem with a peeping Tom. Never found any lurkers on my watch. Did, however, learn a lot about comings and goings in the middle of the night in naval housing. Other than the time spent on a West-Pac cruise I spent most of my CA liberty time on the beach a couple of blocks down from the Pike.

Another clip from the site of your link asked where did the time go? I'll certainly second that.

power bills- I just used my

first cfl light bulb. Put it in the kitchen ceiling light, and already can't stand the color. I'm thinking of doing the old stock up the incandescents till there are no more. Maybe get thru till I can't screw one in anymore.

It's the new flippin' water/sewer bill that burns my bu#@.

Butt burnin' issues

The sixth law of carbonunit dynamics states that the real burnin' butt reaction stops after the last of the hot peppers has passed by. The law does not explain the "phantom burnin' butt" (a.k.a. PBB) that is brought on by disagreeableness however. Conservatives that have been asked to conserve have a particular inclination toward PBB, and just about anyone with a roof that needs fixed, a faucet that needs a fresh, clean water flow, or a toilet that needs to effectively swallow the deposits and take them off premises can easily develop PBB when the freight comes due on said items.

Ah yes, those incandescent...

bulbs. Ever since they started manufacturing them in Eastern Europe after 1990 their longevity seems to have diminished greatly.

It took a little time but I finally got used to that "different" glow of those compact thingies.

Not sure I should be taking espionage advice from you. ;'
Maybe Ninja could give us a couple tricks at the next coffee.

But that wouldn't be very Ninja-like, would it?

I wasn't on my butt. I was on a trip - working.

I had more important things to do than sit around with a bunch of self-important numbskulls like yourself that actually think that people give a crap what they think or have to say.

Ta-ta, Hacky-boy.

You missed an aweful perty blogger. But her secret is safe with us. You'll just have to get off of your butt and make the next one. But I ain't holding my breath.

The hutchette graduates tonight, with honors, along with chippy and acey1's son. Hack's son also graduates tonight, although at a different school.

Wonderful, especially the honors part--but what else would we

expect from a Hutchette? LOL. Now you can start dishing out all that hard earned cash for that other sheepskin or did she get a full scholarship?

George Washington University gave her a great big bunch of money, but unfortunately, for the next 4 years, what money the Gov lets us keep will still find it's way to DC.

I am sure it will be worth it and maybe she will take care of

you in your old (older?) age with all the money she is going to make. LOL. I am sure you are so very proud. What high school did she attend? I just presented a scholarship at McIntosh honors nite as I have for the last six years--have also given them at White Water.

That's great. I am always amazed at all the students who get

scholarships each year at Honors Program. We can be proud of our students here. I am sure she will have a wonderful experience at college.

There are "scholarships," and there are scholarships!

Some for $500, some for $1000 (Chic-fil-A), some for $2-5000 and a very few for more than that!

Then there is HOPE, which we are losing due to negligence.

Sports athletes get the most per person, all they need plus much on the side and under the table.

Costs for one year at good colleges now average about $40,000. For a university to obtain some of the kids with a good chance to graduate they will give $5-10,000 (10-20% of needs) to get them.

Of course much more is now spent by students for restaurant food and shelter than ever before. I remember two people in a 9x11 plus a shower, and a grub cafeteria with two meals a day for five days a week.

No cars. No credit cards, part-time slob job.
Major league baseball now makes millionaires out of mediocre bench players.

All things are relative and have reasons to exist for special purposes.

Of course, the Military schools have the best scholarships! All, plus, is paid.

Most kids now graduate owing $75,000 to 150,000. Destructive!

Round and out, evidently you have not been to many Honors

Night programs, there are many scholarships for quite large amounts, the ones I give are for $1,000 each and they are not unusual. Many are in the thousands and there are many given.

I put all the hooptala and praise for a couple of thousand $ scholarship in the same category as motorcycle rides, parades, and speeches for vets! The little encouragement is gone within a week at school when it is gone---$150,000 to go!

Nothing is accomplished except feeling good for doing nothing functional!
College should be free for those able to do the work.
For those who can't----military or vocational school.

Go help a wounded or dead vet's family with the rent!

Why is it necessary to brag about small scholarships?

Even Cathy does it!

I'd like that responsibility, but since I'm too old, I suppose we would have to live with intelligence and talent and proven leadership ability, judged by well, me again!

Anyway, about half the high school "graduates" can't even do 8th grade stuff!

Also, all admittances can't be of the same thing. We need all kinds of talent.

How important band music would be might not be very much to an electronic genius--I really don't know. Then we don't need many Psychology or Social Studies graduates, do we?

Looks like right now we need a bunch of Physician's assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Space Scientists, and not so many MD's or Accountants---accounting has become not a science but a liberal art!

So we've gone from free college to having occupations assigned to us. The day we assign jobs to people whether they like they like them or not is the day we can ad an SR to our US. I know you've said you were in the Korean war, I'm beginning to wonder on which side.

No assignments, Hutch

They can do whatever they are capable of doing, but maybe some would have to choose a different college!

The sweet smell of spring in PTC

If you get a chance, take an evening ride either on your cart along the paths or down one of the tree lined roads in PTC (Robinson, for one) from about 7:30PM to 8:30PM.

If you're in the car, roll down the windows and enjoy the sweet smell of the honeysuckle vines blooming. They seem to be especially fragrant this year, maybe due to the cooler weather we've had and the windows aren't rolled up with the a/c on.

Now I know this isn't just a PTC phenomena, but to be driving at the 30-45 mph range, on the tree-lined roads, slow enough to enjoy it, I just highly recommend it.

Also, the smell of everyone's bbq fired up and those steaks and chickens being grilled as the aroma comes and goes. Then, go down to Battery Park on the lake and watch the sun set over the trees and the lake.

Makes you believe there is joy to be found with just the simple things, sometimes. Happy Easter, everyone.

round & hutch-thank you

round-I had that thought the first time it happened and wondered what the heck I had said that would get me in the hoosegow on here.

hutch-I didn't think of that one. I haven't had the issue yet today, so I'll try it next time. Of course, this could be the case of the toothache that is killing you with pain till the day you finally get the appt. with the dentist and the pain is just gone.

I emailed Cal and he said he's aware of it and trying to find out how to fix it. In the meantime, it's nice to know I'm not going any more nutso than I have before. These darn compooters will do that to ya sometimes, ya know?

Oops, I place this in the wrong spot on this thread. 'Scuze me..

Problems with reading recent comments on here

I have emailed the webmaster 3-4 times in the last week and no answers/fixes yet. Is anyone else having issues with being able to read a "recent comment"? The title is there to click on, but when I do, the body never appears and only the title of the article it is listed under appears. Mostly on the longer threads. I'm talking a few hours before I can read a post.
Of course, if you answer on here, I won't be able to read your reply till hours from now...joke's on me, I guess.
