Providence United Methodist Church invites members of the community to bring their favorite furry or feathered friends and come out for a special blessing on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Providence’s associate pastor, the Rev. Kory Trinrud, explains, “We are offering a blessing to these animal companions because in them we are reminded of the love God has for us and the wonder that is to be found in creation.”

Visitors should go to the grassy area between the children’s and main buildings on the Providence campus.

There will be a pet Frisbee demonstration, fun awards including, “Looks Most Like Owner,” and “Best Pet Outfit.” Certificates will be given for each pet and a photographer will be on hand to take pictures for free.

Trinrud adds, “I have a special place in my heart for animals, I grew up with a myriad of pets; birds, fish, snakes, gerbils, turtles, lizards, cats, dogs and a salamander that lived for 8 years. Each animal in its uniqueness instilled in me a love of creation. In Genesis 1, God tells us we are responsible for the fish of the sea, the birds in the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground. Part of that responsibility means loving and taking good care of pets that are part of our families, celebrating the majesty of creation with our community, and acknowledging our place among God’s creation and creatures.”

Providence is at 592 Bernhard Road in southern Fayette County between Redwine Road and Ga. Hwy. 85. For more information, call 770-719-8800 or visit www.provumc.com.
