Tickets are now on sale for Ron Hutchinson’s “Moonlight & Magnolias,” the hilarious comedy about the creation of ‘Gone with the Wind’. Just in time for the 75th anniversary of the classic film, this farce will be the first of five exciting shows being produced by The Legacy Theatre this season.

“We think our audiences are going to love Moonlight & Magnolias,” says artistic director, Mark Smith, who is also directing the fast-paced production.

“We wanted to open the season with a great comedy, and with the 75th Anniversary of ‘Gone with the Wind,’ this show was the perfect fit. You don’t have to love the film to enjoy the show, but if you are a fan, then you can’t miss it.”

Executive producer Bethany Hayes Smith added, “We’re proud to showcase some returning actors as well as some new faces. We’ve been blessed with eight successful seasons and we know this show is going to be the first of many hits this year as well.”

The show takes place in 1939 where Hollywood is abuzz. Legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic, ‘Gone with the Wind’. The screenplay, you see, just doesn’t work. So Selznick sends a car for famed screenwriter Ben Hecht and pulls director Victor Fleming from the set of ‘The Wizard of Oz’. Summoning both to his office, he locks the doors, closes the shades, and the three men labor over five days to fashion a screenplay that will become the blueprint for one of the most successful and beloved films of all time.

No stranger to The Legacy Theatre, Jeremiah Parker Hobbs returns as screenwriter, Ben Hecht and Paul Gourdeau (last seen as Mayor Shinn in “The Music Man”) plays distressed producer David O. Selznick. Mandy Mitchell also returns to the Legacy stage to play Selnick’s secretary, Miss Poppenghul and Kentucky-native Paul Glodfelter makes his Legacy debut as the legendary director, Victor Fleming.

“Moonlight & Magnolias” is followed by “Nuncrackers,” the holiday sequel to the hit “Nunsense,” and then “Ring of Fire,” the jukebox musical featuring all the hits of Johnny Cash. In April, The Legacy Theatre will be producing the official developmental production and Atlanta premiere of “Rocket Boys,” based on the book that inspired the film ‘October Sky’. Finishing out the season will be the movie musical hit, “Footloose” in the summer of 2015.

The comedy, “Moonlight & Magnolias” written by Ron Hutchinson opens Friday Oct. 3 and runs until Oct 26.

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. as well as Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. The play contains some adult language and may not be suitable for students under 12.
