A north Fayette County man was the victim of a carjacking in front of his home Sept. 13. Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb said investigators are considering that the victim could have been followed home from his place of work in the Old National Highway area in Fulton County.

Babb said the armed robbery occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. when the 70-year-old resident of Dix-Lee-On Drive off Ga. Highway 279 arrived home. The victim was approached outside his vehicle by a man brandishing a handgun, Babb said.

“The male pointed the handgun at the victim, demanding the victim give him everything,” Babb said. “The male fled the scene in the victim’s dark blue 2005 Cadillac CTS (Ga. tag: BJF 6453).”

Babb said the suspect is described as a light-skinned black male in his early twenties, approximately 5-feet-8-inches tall and weighing 150 to 170 pounds. The male may have been the passenger in a tan or brown in color small Dodge truck believed to be a Dakota, said Babb.

Babb said the resident was returning home from work and shopping on Old National Highway and investigators are not ruling out that he may have been followed to his home.

Sheriff’s investigators are currently working leads in the investigation and are asking anyone with information to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 770-716-4750, Sgt. Lee at 770-716-4888 or Lt. Harper at 770-716-4763.

There have been several incidents of robbery in and around Fayette County in recent years where law enforcement agencies suspect that the residents were followed home from their places of business.
