It has been more than five years since West Point-based Charter Bank opened an office in Fayette County. But that office located in Peachtree City is set to close in late September.

Regional president Ashley Schubert in a recent letter to customers said Charter has determined that maintaining a retail branch office in Peachtree City is not economically feasible, adding that Charter will exit the Fayette County market on Sept. 26.

Commenting on the closure, Charter CEO Lee Washam on Thursday said, “We like Peachtree City and Fayette County. They are great communities. Unfortunately for us, we weren’t able to make much money there. We got good accounts, but you have to lend money to make money.”

The branch is located at 2008 Ga. Highway 54 just east of Peachtree City.

For those wishing to keep an account with Charter, Schubert said customer accounts will remain intact and continued banking services will be available at Charter’s other locations, including those in Newnan.

For more information contact the Charter corporate office at 800-763-4444 or the Peachtree City branch at 770-486-7900.

Charter operates banks in Georgia in Newnan, Carrollton, LaGrange and West Point. Charter also has banking locations Florida and Alabama.
