The 3rd Annual Touch A Truck event will be roaring back to Ashley Park Mall today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The event, organized by Odyssey School PTO and held in the parking lot behind Olive Garden, is a chance for kids and adults to enjoy vehicles, trucks and equipment from companies like Caterpillar, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Peterbilt, FedEx, and Southside Wreckers.

Kids can talk to the drivers, take pictures, honk horns and sit inside many of the vehicles.

“This is our third year hosting Touch A Truck and it is such a joy to see kids smiling from ear to ear as they sit inside a race car, climb on a fire truck or honk the horns on the Peterbilt. You would think they are meeting their favorite movie stars. They don’t often get a chance to see equipment like this up close, plus they can talk to the drivers and sit inside. It’s so much fun for families,” said Jennifer Petrino, event organizer.

There are many new additions this year including forklifts from Carolina Handling, John Deere tractors from AgPro, construction equipment from Crawford Grading, and an oil pump truck from GEOBio Fuel.

Old favorites will be back too, including all the city and county police cars and fire trucks, race cars, HERO, a hearse, bucket trucks, classic cars, new cars and trucks from local dealerships and much more. There will be vendors and BBQ available, as well as face painting by Bubbles and Brushes Art Studio and Dusty the Clown.

Touch A Truck is organized by Odyssey School PTO and the goal is to provide a fun, inexpensive family event for the Newnan community to enjoy during the summer. The event also provides several opportunities for families to support local charitable organizations. Bring a canned food item for the Coweta Community Food Pantry and receive $1 off admission. Sign up for the Jason Trotter Fun Run at their booth or purchase a bracelet from the Abby’s Angels Foundation booth. Families can visit the Fear This 4 Life booth to sign up for their Teen Driver class being held at Northgate High School on June 20.

There will also be an American Red Cross blood drive. Donors can sign up at www.redcrossblood.org using sponsor code TRUCK.

County, city and military vehicles are free to touch. Admission for all others is $3 per person, or $2 with a non-perishable food item for the Coweta Community Food Pantry. Children 2 and under are free.

All proceeds will benefit the Odyssey School, a free public charter school for grades K-8 located in Newnan. For more information about Odyssey, go to www.odysseycharterschool.net.
