Trinity captures GISA region title

Trinity Christian School’s track team has made huge strides in only its second season.

The girls won the GISA’s 1-AAA region championship April 16. Andrea Campbell and Dee Cowan finished first and second in the 100 and 200 meters and Ashley Caldwell won the 100-meter hurdles. Cowan was the top individual scorer due in part to her performances in the long jump and as part of the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.

The boys came in third in the region. Joey Armistead’s second-place finishes in the 200 and 400 meters led team scoring while teammate Aaron Johnson placed second in the 110-meter hurdles and third in the 300-meter hurdles.

The Lions qualified a total of 20 athletes to go to the state championship meet in Albany, where the girls placed seventh and the boys were 13th.

The girls 4x100-meter relay team (Campbell, Caldwell, Cowan and Sara Bryan) placed third at state while the 4x400-meter relay team (Campbell, Cowan, Bryan and Ruth Colburn) was fourth overall.

Cowan placed third in the long jump, seventh in the 200-meter dash and eighth in the 100-meter dash. Bryan came in sixth in the 400-meter dash.

Caldwell was seventh in the 100-meter dash, the 300-meter hurdles and shot put; Campbell was eighth in the 200-meter dash.

For the boys, Armistead placed third at 400 meters and seventh at 200 meters. The team got sixth-place finishes from Aaron Johnson (110-meter hurdles) and Aaron George (100-meter dash).
