This Thursday, Christian City will host “The History and Legacy of the English Bible.” Collector Michael Morgan will speak on the “first generation” of the English Bible from Wycliffe through the King James Version. This free event is open to the public and sponsored by Christian City’s Life Enrichment Department and the Christian City Men’s Club.
Morgan will speak in the Sparks Inn Auditorium on the Christian City campus in Union City at 3 p.m., with a question and answer session to follow. Items from his collection will also be on display in the auditorium from 1 – 3 p.m.
The collection of almost 4,000 volumes includes English Bibles, Testaments, Psalters, and Liturgies. Highlights of the collection include versions of the Bible from 1380 through the mid 17th century, the Great Bible of Henry VIII, the Bible of the Geneva refugees under “Bloody Mary,” the first Catholic translation in English, and the first printing of the King James Bible of 1611.
Morgan is not only an avid collector, but also organist for Atlanta’s historic Central Presbyterian Church for the past 35 years. He also serves as organist at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur.
