Sandy Creek student wins entrepreneur competition

Student teams from four Fayette County high schools participated in the April 2 county competition of The Entrepreneurship Project, a Fayette Chamber of Commerce program designed to encourage and recognize students with an entrepreneurial spirit who desire to start a business someday.

Ellie Klarl, of Sandy Creek High School, was named the winner of the county competition for her business plan for Paws & Claws Pet Ranch. Melanie Duncan, SCHS Career & Technology teacher, also won recognition as the instructor for the winning student/team.

Each Fayette County high school was invited to create teams of students tasked with developing a new business idea, writing a business plan, creating promotional material, and presenting the projections of running their particular business venture to a mock panel of directors/investors. Student teams competed first at the high school level, with a winning team from each school selected to compete at the county level.

At the county competition, teams from McIntosh High School, Sandy Creek High School, Starrs Mill High School, and Whitewater High School gave oral presentations about their business plans and answered questions from a panel of judges comprised of business leaders and owners from Fayette County. The winner received a $250 gift card. The Entrepreneurship Project was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Peachtree City.

Work is scheduled to begin Wednesday, July 8, at about 9 p.m. and continue through the night to modify existing lane configurations at the intersection of Newnan Crossing Bypass and Hwy.
