'The Fred' announces 2012 Summer Concert Series

The Frederick Brown Jr. “The Fred” Amphitheater in Peachtree City is proud to announce the 2012 Lexus of South Atlanta summer concert series under the stars.

Showcasing musical genres ranging from Rock to Oldies to R&B, the Fred promises a diverse and spectacular season filled with award-winning artists and bands, featuring hits from the 70’s to the 2000’s.

Kicking off the concert series May 5 is Foreigner. Foreigner is universally hailed as one of the most popular rock acts in the world, racking up scores of smash hits, multi-platinum albums, and sold out concert tours. From “Cold as Ice” to “Hot Blooded”, “Urgent” to Jukebox Hero” , “Waiting for a Girl Like You” to the chart topper “I Want to Know What Love Is”, Foreigner's thrilling mix of blustery blues and impeccably crafted pop continues to captivate generation after generation of music fans. Today, over 70 million albums later, Foreigner is an ensemble of talented musicians each adding their individual credentials to the mix to make the band stronger and more powerful than ever.

May 12 will feature popular 70’s group Blood Sweat & Tears with Special Guest Chuck Negron formerly of Three Dog Night Racking up sales in the millions, BS&T earned multiple gold albums, 10 Grammy nominations and won 3 Grammy Awards including the most prestigious of them all, Album of the Year. Hits songs will include You've Made Me So Very Happy," "Spinning Wheel," "And When I Die," combined with Three Dog Night favorites like “One”, "Mama Told Me (Not to Come),"Three Dog Night hits that will be performed include "Black & White," "Joy to the World," "Eli's Coming" & "An Old Fashioned Love Song" performed by Chuck Negron

On May 26 Bret Michaels comes to town. As front man for the legendary rock band Poison, Michaels has sold 25 million records and scored an amazing 15 chartbusting Top 40 singles including “Something to Believe In,” “Nothing But a Good Time” and the timeless #1 smash “Every Rose Has its Thorn.” And in the new millennium Poison’s music has been featured in such big screen flicks as “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” “Grandma’s Boy” and “Deuce Bigelow-European Gigolo.” Setting his musical sights beyond Poison, Michaels released his debut solo album “Songs of Life” in 2003 followed by the rootsy, Americana flavored sophomore record “Freedom of Sound” in 2005.

On June 23 Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack bring their soulful sounds to Peachtree City. Internationally hailed as one of the greatest songstresses of our time, Roberta Flack remains unparalleled in her ability to tell a story through her music from pop to soul to folk to jazz. In 1972, a re-release of her song, "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," from her first LP, zoomed to number one and remained there for six weeks, becoming that year's biggest hit. Flack followed with a string of hits, including "Where Is the Love" (a duet with former Howard University classmate Donny Hathaway), "Killing Me Softly With His Song", "Feel Like Makin' Love", "The Closer I Get to You", "Tonight I Celebrate My Love", and "Set the Night to Music."

Bryson is one of the premier male vocalists in contemporary music and with twenty-five years of music-making to his credit, he is expanding his creative horizons as a producer and songwriter. He has done duets with Roberta Flack, Kenny G and Natalie Cole. He sang a number of Disney hits, including "A Whole New World" from Aladdin with Regina Belle, and "Beauty and the Beast" with Celine Dion.

On July 14 Richard Marx will perform his solo show with 20 strings. For over 20 years, Marx has consistently and powerfully made his mark on the music industry. His debut single “Don’t Mean Nothing” and self-titled debut album kicked off his career as a solo artist in 1987 and went on to sell 3 million copies. From 1987 to 1990, he became the first male solo artist in history to have his first 7 singles reach the top 5 on Billboard’s singles chart, including the 1 hits “Hold On to the Nights,” “Satisfied” and the worldwide classic, “Right Here Waiting.” This feat remains unchallenged. On August 11 Billy Ocean arrives. In 1984 Ocean became an international star when “Caribbean Queen” went to #1 on the pop and R&B charts becoming a worldwide hit. In 1986, Billy Ocean recorded “When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going” and it went to #2 hit later that year Ocean released the Top-10 album Love Zone and scored his second #1 hit with “There’ll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry).” A third #1,“Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car,” followed in 1998.

Series ticket renewals for existing series ticket holders will take place February 27- March 9. New series tickets will go on sale to the public on March 15 at the Fred Box Office, and on-line with www.ticketalternative.com. Individual tickets can be purchased beginning Friday, March 16. The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater is a 2,352 seat state-of-the art facility owned and operated by the City of Peachtree City. “The Fred” box office is located at 201 McIntosh Trail, and is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. The box office will be closed on Mondays. Better than some of the past schedules

For me anyway the first half of the season is much stronger then the second. I would have liked to see at least one more rock, surf, be-bop, even country act. Good, but not great the way it is.
