James Evans’ wife Jami and daughter Lillian narrowly escaped serious injury Wednesday afternoon when a pine tree, weighted down with ice, came crashing into the wall outside the room where they were watching television.

Evans — who lives on Hip Pocket Road in Peachtree City — took photos and tells the story:

“It is my daughter Lilly (Lillian) Evans climbing the tree. The house is livable for now. It didn’t break through the ceiling. It hit the house at around 4:30 p.m. while my wife and youngest daughter were in the room watching TV, and the tree hit the roof and rolled off.

“Had the house not been made of brick, the tree would have crashed through and taken my wife and child with it,” Evans said.

“My wife came running down the hallway screaming and I went outside expecting the worse,” Evans said.

The excitement wasn’t over. “At dinner we were eating and a large tree limb fell on the power lines and the brightest blue blinding light came shining through the window,” Evans said. “Thankfully, the limb didn’t snap the line and less than a minute after, the power came back on.”
