There was probably a time, somewhere in the late 20th century, where the prospect of burritos being made in front of you for lunch or dinner wasn’t all that appealing. Thank God for the future. Moe’s Southwest Grill, which isn’t just a burrito restaurant, prepares numerous dishes while you wait with a wide variety of fresh ingredients and a whole lot of style.

Carey Blankenship, the store manager of the Moe’s at The Avenue in Peachtree City, thinks that the atmosphere of his store is one of the reasons that Moe’s is so popular among area residents.

“The staff is friendly, the store is clean and immaculate and it is a great place to eat on a budget,” said Blankenship, who added that the food was the main reason that people kept coming back. “Our ingredients are fresh. We make our own guacamole and pico de gallo and cook the chips fresh every day as well. We’re not just a burrito joint.”

There are salads, tacos, quesadillas and fajitas on the menu at Moe’s, each one with a fun or clever name that hints towards something from pop culture, but the burritos, especially the homewrecker, are the most popular items. The homewrecker gives the customer a choice of meat or tofu, rice, black or pinto beans, cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream and lettuce with several other items available to add. When it is all rolled up, it is something that Blankenship knows will leave every customer full and satisfied. Recently, the store has also added whole grain tortillas as an option for the more health conscious and every item can be made vegetarian.

Seeing your lunch or dinner made in front of you makes it easy to insure that you get what you want and the staff at Moe’s is courteous and efficient. The cuisine is so popular, in fact, that the store’s catering business has blossomed with many people using the restaurant for parties, business or school events and even a wedding or two. Lunch is when the store at The Avenue does their biggest business but school spirit nights keep the place hopping on weeknights and a new promotion where kids eat free on Saturday with a coupon (found in this issue on Page B2) will keep them busy on the weekend too.

One event that gave the store a lot of publicity last year was a burrito eating contest between the McIntosh and Starr’s Mill football teams. The contest was such a hit that it will return this year but there will also be a burrito eating contest open to the public in April.
Blankenship stated that his store has become a popular hangout and there are many reasons for it. Not only is the food good and inexpensive, but there is plenty of space in the dining area, the music, which consists entirely of artists that have all passed away, is excellent, there is wi-fi and the decor is fun and lively.

“Everyone who comes in always gets a hearty ‘Welcome to Moe’s’ from the staff,” Blankenship said. It is just one of the things that keeps people coming back. Moe’s isn’t just a burrito joint, but it is one of the friendliest eateries in town.
