The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) will help you save time and money when renewing a license or ID by mail or online. A $5 discount is given to those who choose to use the automated renewal application to renew without visiting a customer service center in person.

DDS sends out renewal applications approximately 60 days before a license or ID expiration — which is typically the licensee’s birthday.

Eligible candidates who do not need to make any changes to the information reflected on their driver’s licenses can get a renewed license mailed directly to their home – complete with photo – before the original driver’s license expires. And it will cost $5 less than renewing in person. Your license will be mailed to you, eliminating a trip to a licensing center.

“If you receive an automated renewal notice mailed to you from the DDS, please use it right away,” said Gregory C. Dozier, DDS Commissioner. “We are proud of the success we have experienced with this program, which is reflected in the more than 2.9 million Georgians who have already utilized this service,” he added.

The application contains complete instructions for renewal, including an individual and secure renewal identification number (RIN). The customer will use this RIN to request a license renewal online by accessing the DDS website: www.dds.ga.gov., or they may choose to renew via mail.

Whether a customer renews online or by mail, this program is another example of the DDS’ efforts to make services faster, friendlier and easier for Georgians, while preserving the privacy and integrity of personal info.

Important note to customers: Please keep your address current with the DDS to ensure receiving pertinent information concerning your license. A very important component of this program is the ability to deliver the application to the customer.

For extra convenience, an online address change feature is also available via www.dds.ga.gov. To learn more about the DDS’ other online services, visit the website at www.dds.ga.gov.
