Dr. Lewis Bailey Hasty, age 94, of Peachtree City, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2018.

He was born in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., on December 6, 1923, to Lewis Ransome Hasty and Virginia Barnes Hasty. After graduating Roanoke Rapids High School, he was recruited to serve in US Naval Intelligence. His service was not publicly known until the declaration of war following Pearl Harbor.  He earned Naval scholarships for premedical studies at the University of Richmond, and to Medical College of Virginia for his medical degree. After his internship, he served as medical officer on the USS Navarro. After finishing his Naval career, he did a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Emory University.    He then practiced in East Point for 36 years. A number of the babies he delivered later returned to him for care when they started their own families.

Dr. Hasty was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Stephenson and Jean Hodges. He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, the former Sally Whitehurst Harding; his brother Charles Hasty (Lois); his children Jeffrey Hasty (Janet), Jennifer Hasty Walden (James, deceased), and Richard Hasty (Jeannie); grandchildren Steven Hasty, Karen Hasty-Zhang, and Emma Hasty; and great-grandson Darwin Zhang.

He was an elder at East Point Presbyterian Church for many years, and in retirement attended Evergreen Church in Peachtree City. He was a long time member of Kiwanis International. He served on the Board of Trustees of South Fulton Hospital and was elected to the presidency of the South Central OB/GYN Society.

Lewis enjoyed golf, fishing, and travel.  He is fondly remembered by family, friends, and his many patients. His kindness, good humor, and smile will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Evergreen Church (evergreenchurchga.org) or Alzheimers Foundation of America (alzfdn.org).   Memorial service details will be announced at a later date.
