Barbara Cheney Prellberg, age 85, a resident of Arbor Terrace, Peachtree City, Ga. and formerly of Arlington Heights, Ill. passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on February 19, 2018.

Barbara was born on February 16, 1933 in Atlanta, Ga., to Harold and Thelma Cheney.    At the age of 12 her family relocated to Indianapolis, Ind. Four years later her family moved to Arlington Heights, Ill., where she met her husband of 64 years, Marvin W. Prellberg, Jr. 

Barbara attended DePauw University for 2 years and was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. Barbara and Marvin were married on December 26, 1953 at the First Methodist Church of Arlington Heights.  After a brief stint of being an army wife, Barb and Marv settled in Palatine, Ill. They moved a few years later to neighboring Arlington Heights, Ill., where they raised their four children.

Barbara was involved in activities at the First United Methodist Church of Arlington Heights and was a member of an alumni chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta and the local PEO chapter.    She worked as an administrative assistant at Arlington Heights High School. After 29 years of residency in Arlington Heights, subsequent job transfers moved Marv and Barb to Orlando, Fla. in 1986, and to Menomonee Falls, Wis. in 1990. In 1994 Marv and Barb decided to retire to Peachtree City, Ga..  They joined the Peachtree City United Methodist Church, where Barbara was actively involved with many of the church ministries   and was a faithful member of the Friendship Bible Study Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Marvin W. Prellberg, Jr., her 4 children, Bonnie (Bill) Bates, Terri (Mick) Brown, Mark (Donna) Prellberg, and Jeffrey (Beth) Prellberg; 8 grandchildren, Sara, Amanda, Nathan (Allison), Carly (Brad), Jessica, Julia, Matthew, Garrett; 3 great grandchildren, Peyton, Piper, Faith; and her sister Kay(Floyd) Shaw.

In her spare time, Barbara enjoyed gardening, doll making, sewing, knitting, embroidery, and crossword puzzles.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Arbor Terrace, Southern Grace Hospice, and the wonderful caregivers of Grace Care for their compassion and kindness during Barbara’s final days.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., on April 7th, 2018 at Peachtree City United Methodist Church, 225 Robinson Rd. Peachtree City, Ga.
