Visiting cranes delight birdwatchers

Marlene Koslowsky, a south Fayette County resident, tells about the arrival of some out-of-state visitors: “A friend alerted me to a group of about 35 sandhill cranes by a small private pond on Brooks-Woolsey Road in Fayetteville March 6. These birds are not local, but are migratory from around the Great Lakes area to Florida and back. Perhaps many have heard these (they are really loud!) and seen them flying overhead. On an odd occasion, they have stopped somewhere in Fayette County. In the fall, they overnighted at Lake Peachtree, with its ideal low water levels, a few days. This group from [earlier this month] stopped by someone’s home and pond. I personally went to see them four times that day. For me, it was pure delight!” And she took their picture, shared here.
