Weather has delayed the opening of a portion of Lee’s Mill Road for utility line relocation. The roadway is expected to open prior to Thanksgiving.

Fayette County Clerk Tameca White said Lee’s Mill Road is currently closed for a SPLOST (special purpose local option sales tax) pipe replacement project.

Lee’s Mill Road was closed to through traffic at Tar Creek on Aug. 1 to allow Atlanta Gas-Light Southern Co. to start relocating the gas line, estimating they would complete the gas line relocation on Aug. 9.

Due to Atlanta Gas-Light subcontractor delays, the gas line relocation was completed on Sept. 12 and the culvert contractor mobilized for waterline installation work on Sept. 14.

The Atlanta Gas-Light delay moved the initial road reopen date of Oct. 2 back to Nov. 3, White said.

Additionally, the construction site experienced three rain events that prevented proper soil compaction around the new culvert from being obtained causing an additional two-week delay. Lee’s Mill Road is now expected to open prior to Thanksgiving, said White.
