The Tyrone Planning Commission on July 13 voted to recommend the rezoning of 46 acres along Ga. Highway 74 North proposed as the site of Founders Studios. Next up, the Town Council will consider approval at its Thursday 7 p.m. meeting at Town Hall, 881 Senoia Rd.

Plans for the site include the construction of up to six television soundstages. The second set of production soundstages would be located less than four miles from Pinewood Atlanta Studios on Sandy Creek Road in Fayetteville.

One request before commissioners on July 13 dealt with the proposed rezoning a 46.4-acre tract at the corner of Jenkins Road and Hwy. 74 from O-I (office institutional) to M-1 (light industrial) with a PIP (planned industrial park) overlay.

The vote to recommend the rezoning was 4-0. The item will go before the Tyrone Town Council on July 20.

A second item on the council’s July 20 agenda requests approval of the Founders Studios development plan establishing guidelines and provisions for a Planned Industrial Park overlay district to accommodate the Founders Studios movie/media production Planned Unit Development (PUD).

That item received a favorable recommendation by planning commissioners on a 4-0 vote.

The proposal by Dockery Group owner Nathan Dockery asks that the property be rezoned to establish Founders Studios, a development included in the 90-acre site on the east side of Hwy. 74 between Jenkins Road and Sandy Creek Road.
