Gunman fires into house, wounds 2 girls

Two 11-year-old girls at a Reynolds Street residence in Newnan were wounded on June 26 by gunfire that came from outside the home.

The Newnan Police Department was notified of a shooting that had occurred at 45 Reynolds Street at 11:38 a.m. on June 26, said Deputy Chief Mark Cooper.

“During the course of the investigation, it was determined that an unknown person or persons fired bullets from outside the house into the living room and kitchen of the residence,” Cooper said. “During the incident, four juvenile females were located in the front rooms of the residence.After hearing the shots, the girls attempted to flee the room and bullets struck two of the females.”

Cooper said one girl was struck in the right cheek and the other girl was struck in the left thigh area. Both girls are 11 years old.

Both victims, one by helicopter and the other by ambulance, were transported to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta. Both victims are in stable condition and receiving medical care, Cooper said.

The Newnan Police Department has not identified a suspect at this time.
