Four Coweta County School System elementary schools won the top four honors at the West Georgia Regional Academic Bowl Competition, held on Feb. 28 at Elm Street Elementary School.

A total of 41 elementary schools in Coweta, Carroll, Harris, Meriwether, Troup counties participated in academic bowl competitions in West Georgia RESA’s sponsored Academic Team Program, said school system spokesman Dean Jackson.

Jackson said schools are divided into four divisions. Schools winning first through fourth place in their division at the season’s end continue on to compete in the regional finals event.

Northside Elementary took first place at that event. Willis Road’s team took second place, Eastside Elementary third place and Arbor Springs Elementary fourth place at the finals event, Jackson said.

In addition to this year’s winning teams, Coweta was represented by other elementary schools at the regional finals, including Canongate, Elm Street, Glanton, Coweta Charter, Thomas Crossroads and White Oak.

“We are all very proud of Coweta’s academic teams,” said Bobbi Deling, who coaches Arbor Springs Elementary School’s academic bowl team. “Team coaches and parents work diligently in supporting the students and spend numerous hours helping the team get ready with practices throughout the school year.”
