Douglas Harrison Stansberry, 61, of Fayetteville passed away on January 24, 2017 after a brave struggle. Born to Alfred and Estelle Stansberry on June 23, 1955 in Marietta, Ga., he grew up in Iowa and returned to Georgia in 1974.

Douglas was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kyle Stansberry of Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Carole Stansberry of Fayetteville; daughter, Wendy Witt of Marietta; son, Mark Stansberry of New Jersey; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Witt of Marietta; step-daughters, Heather Monroe of Fayetteville and Michelle Monroe-Dunn of Senoia; sisters, Diane Hammond and Stacey Keeton of Iowa; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Douglas was founder and president of the Marquis de LaFayette Chapter (Fayetteville), Georgia Society, Sons of the American Revolution (S.A.R.) and held several officer positions in the National S.A.R. headquartered in Louisville, Ky., as well as being a proud member of the Georgia and National Society Color Guard.  Douglas’ hobbies were genealogy and travel, and he and Carole enjoyed many trips to Washington, D.C., France, Spain, Greece, Aruba, Hawaii, Mexico, Venezuela and Switzerland.

A funeral service to honor Douglas’ memory will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville Chapel, with Rev. Jeff Lowe officiating. The family will receive friends from 3-4:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Kennesaw Memorial Park, Marietta, Ga., with the Sons of the American Revolution rendering honors.
