Two varsity wrestlers from Fayette won their respective weight classes last weekend at the annual South Metro tournament at Luella High School. Thirty teams competed in the event, which is Georgia’s longest-running high school wrestling tournament, having run annually since 1971.

Logan Wesolowski of Whitewater won the championship in the 145-pound division, going 5-0 in the tournament. Jake Lee of Sandy Creek won the 106-pound division, also going undefeated, and improved his season record to 23-0.

Wesolowski, a senior, started Friday night with a first-period pin over Andrews of Jonesboro High School. In Saturday’s quarterfinals, he bested Lewis of Rockdale County, winning by a pin in the third period. In the tournament semifinals he pinned Malone of Forest Park, and then he defeated the tournament’s top seed, Patterson of Union Grove, by a score of 9-4 in the championship match. His overall record is now 23-2 on the season.

Other Whitewater Wildcat wrestlers who placed in the South Metro tournament included sophomore Greg Pasquarella (third in the 132-lb. division), junior Jason Higgins (fourth in the 113-lb. division), junior Cole Baxter (fourth place in the 172-lb. division), senior Josiah Webb (fifth place in the 160-lb. division), and senior Gary Hogg (fifth place in the 195-lb. division).
