Herbert Wayne Green, Jr., 67, a native of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, passed away in Macon, Ga. on June 11, 2014 with his family by his side.

He was born on May 31, 1947 in Harrisonburg, Va. to the late Herbert Wayne Green, Sr. and Adele Pastula Green. Herb was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Afterwards, he graduated from Lord Fairfax Community College and went on to obtain his real estate license from Bridgewater College. Herb was married to Vicki Wood in 1982, and they raised three children together.

Herb worked in the garment industry for more than 30 years. He held management positions for Aileen, Modern Globe, Lee, and Carter’s. Though a native of Virginia, Herb resided in Georgia for nearly 20 years. Herb was a talented cook and loved to make meals for family and friends. He enjoyed John Wayne movies, bluegrass and gospel music, banana splits, and naps. He was an avid hunter and fisherman with strong ties to the land. He loved grilling, horseshoes, golf, and many other outdoor activities. When once asked by the local paper who the official timekeeper was for the start of trout season, Herb replied “The one with the fastest watch.”

Herb is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Wayne Green, Sr. and Adele Pastula Green.

He is survived by his wife Vicki Wood Green, his daughter Kate Green Miller (Mitch), his daughter Tori Green Hedden (Todd), his son Clinton Wayne Green, his granddaughter Libby Miller, and his grandson Marshall William Miller. He is also survived by his siblings: Robert William Green (Sandra), Joyce Green Sager (Scott), and Matthew Wayne Green (Teresa).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Alaska’s Healing Hearts in Herb’s honor. A memorial service for Georgia friends and family was held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. in Macon, Ga. at First Baptist Church of Christ. Scott Dickison officiated. A luncheon for family and friends followed the service. Herb will then make his final trip back to his beloved home in Virginia where a celebration of life will be held. Arrangements for the Virginia service are in progress.
