The county’s two oldest high schools will square off on the gridiron the first weekend of the 2014 season, and seven other games during the fall will feature two local teams facing each other.

The McIntosh Chiefs travel to Fayetteville to play the Fayette County Tigers Aug. 22. The Sandy Creek Patriots will be in action that same night, against Archer at McEachern in the Corky Kell Classic.

The other local team kicking off that weekend is the Landmark War Eagles, with a Saturday game in Dalton against Christian Heritage School.

The Starr’s Mill Panthers will host the Whitewater Wildcats Aug. 29, but for the first time in a few years this will not be a subregion game. Whitewater is moving to Region 5-AAAA, joining Fayette County and Sandy Creek, while Starr’s Mill remains in Region 4-AAAAA with McIntosh.

Fayette County hosts Starr’s Mill Sept. 5, and two intracounty games are set for Oct. 10: Starr’s Mill at McIntosh and Whitewater at Sandy Creek.

The Tigers travel to Whitewater Oct. 24 and host Sandy Creek Nov. 7, which is the final weekend of the regular season. Fayette County will play all four of the other public school teams in the county this fall.

Landmark plays at Our Lady of Mercy in a Region 5-A matchup Nov. 7.
