UPDATE: Due to bad weather, The Marketplace is cancelled for Wednesday, March 17, only. The event will continue as planned March 18-20.

The community is invited to Providence United Methodist Church for the “Marketplace” from 6-9 p.m. starting tonight, March 17, and running through Saturday, March 20. This free, interactive experience is a walk through Jerusalem with sights and sounds of a biblical-era village including live animals, Roman Soldiers, and children dancing at the firepit.

There are crafts for kids such as making rope, basket weaving, perfume making, carpentry and making jewelry. Activities include rock climbing, archery, grape stomping and photos in period costume.

“This year we’re excited to add two camels to the Marketplace to take the children on short rides,” said children’s minister Kathi Sewak, “so that will be fun for kids of all ages.”

Demonstrations by artisans will include fabric weaving, making olive oil, making pottery, carpentry and making a mosaic. Each evening at 7:30 and 8:30 there will be an indoor presentation with music and a lighter, funnier message that everyone can relate to.

“Last year we were excited by the big turnout at the first year of the Marketplace, so this year we’ve added some activities to make it even more fun and have prepared for more people,” senior minister Warren Huddleston explains. “The Providence church family is looking forward to welcoming the community this week.”

Providence is at 592 Bernhard Rd. between Ga. Highway 85 and Redwine Road. Visitors will be directed to parking and enter the Marketplace through the Children’s Building.
