Fayette sheriff’s detectives have arrested five Clayton County youths for burglarizing a home in the Hampstead Heath subdivision off Ga. Highway 314 North early Monday afternoon.
A witness alerted 911 to suspicious activity in the area and the first responding deputy was able to arrest one of the suspects in a turquoise Camaro at the subdivision’s entrance off Hwy. 314, said sheriff’s Det. Brian Lee. Another suspect fled the car on foot — barefoot — into the woods, Lee said.
The suspect who fled, later identified as Theary Uk, 22, was found after a search of the area. He was arrested after he was bitten by a sheriff’s K-9 dog, which was released by its handler to apprehend Uk after he refused to stop, officials said.
Uk was warned by the handler that if he didn’t stop, the handler would “release” the dog, officials said. Uk was caught near the Fayette-Clayton County line in a wooded area off Helmer Road, Lee said.
Three other suspects who were apparently in another vehicle got away, but they were arrested later as a result of the investigation, Lee said.
Among those arrested and charged with the burglary were Uk, James Blake Penman, 21, Kehinde Tolupo James, 18, Joshua Robert Conley, age unknown, and a 16-year-old juvenile, all of Clayton County, Lee said.
Uk is also wanted by DeKalb County for failure to appear in court on a weapons offense and in Clayton County for one charge of damaging property.
Detectives anticipate making additional arrests in the case, Lee said.
